strange bird behavior in last few weeks
Has anyone else noticed for the last 6 weeks lots of aggressive bird behavior and lots of baby birds being knocked out of trees...I'm in Austin, TX and keep seeing birds fighting and generally freaking out everywhere and baby birds falling out of trees a bunch. I wonder if it's related to the weakening magnetic field?

I know that in Arizona, I've heard a few people talk about the fact that they don't dodge cars as well as they used to. I hit one the other day and I was surprised because it had plenty of time to get out of the way.

Oddly enough, I have noticed this as well. I have noticed the sparrows in our area attacking other birds. The one was going after a hawk the other day as I sat in traffic, the one bird actually fell from sky and landed on a cars hood before getting back up to go battle.

A lot of dead grackles and starlings.

I have several feeders and the birds come from dawn until dark. The bigger birds shove the smaller birds away from the feeders. I have to scatter seed around the yard so the little birds get something to eat.

I have noticed some hawks and buzzards flying around more this month.

2 odd things I noticed are that they start chirping shortly after 3am, instead of sunrise, and I have been seeing cardinals a lot more...pretty much weekly I will see a cardinal, sometimes multiple times per week, I don't know if that's unusual but I don't remember them being so common.

Birds, even small ones, will attack a bird of prey if their young are at risk.

This is quite common.

I haven't noticed any difference. Some birds still want to steal others babies. They still fight.

Found some dead Jays in the yard here in southern Alabama. I have also noticed a lot of birds extremely agitated at times - like when they see a snake or cat - yet there's nothing around. A dozen or so will fly up here and there, hop around screeching at nothing, then fly away. I have lived in the country most of my life and have never seen this behavior.

It's called avian mobbing behavior. I see it every day. Just look up and you can see a hawk or other raptor swarmed with little birds. [link to rosyfinch.com]

In my area it's still only a month to three months into fledgling season, most adult parents are aggressive when their young are first venturing out into the wild.

I am in North Alabama and our birds have been loudly chirping all night. It is like they are having a damn party all night every night. I am not sure if that is normal behavior or not, I just know that I noticed it several months ago, and it is consistent.

Birds have been acting strange here too... Enough for my teenage son to comment on something I noticed last week they are flying into the house windows 3 today and picking up the goose and chicken feathers flying high in the sky and dropping them like they are playing rather bizarre I've never seen that before
