If you share a laundry facilty it's possible you picked them up from the dryer on a shirt and then in the process of putting said shirt on, enhaled them without notice.

They then lodged in your throat with saliva until you were fast asleep, at that point your throat began to dry and the hair was able to loosen enought to begin tickling ever so slightly.

This would explain the knots being in them, as hair gets tangled in the dryer.

Well, I wash my clothes on saturday mornings... so maybe it was sitting there a few days? lmao.
