Nice glitch to stop bank runs. LOL On Power Lunch financial news today a guy talking really fast said....
“What to do with your money before the weekend?.........I say go to the bank and get some out.”

Odd to hear him say that on MSM, even if he was joking. he didn't laugh after saying it. It just kind of laid there in the air. LOL It was said in a way, you had to be paying attention and know what's going on in financial news or you would disregard it as him just jabber jawing.

yep, and it's being kept quiet for a reason.

i do think GLP is a citizen think tank that is watched for 'average citizen' response.

i posted a link earlier about how natwest is keeping their public response VERY quiet. as in, NO announcement regarding the issue...and it's 83% owned by the government.

Interesting....I split my eBay transactions up. PayPal was able to process payment for a seller in Massachusetts, but unable to process payment. Fr a seller in So. Cal. The seller appears to be in good standing on eBay. Just passing along my experience. Hubby is off to get some cash out of the bank, I'll report back any problems.

Most people shop on Friday after work.
Some people get paid on Friday and their money automatically goes on their debit card.
Few have cash any more.

People have to EAT this weekend. They can't wait until Monday.

I don't trust these clowns anymore. I pulled all my cash out. Maybe MAYBE once they get their act together I'll put it back in, but I'm not risking it if they decided to take a surprise 'holiday'.

The Banks Technical Error excuse is a new way to float our money!

Banks just got downgraded.

Hold peoples monies and make interest on it.

Citizens get screwed again.

Float (money supply): Bank float is the time it takes to clear the item from the time it was deposited to the time the funds were credited to the depositing bank.

Add a problem using your debit card after your paycheck/social security check has been floating around in banks and Presto the bank makes money and you get screwed!

just thought i'd check in from indianapolis -

no issues here - been to the grocery and some regular stores and got cash back in the check out - all processing fine yesterday and today

my internet, however, IS slow and weird

I'm a checker at a local independent grocery store (Nor Cal). On my lunch now, and our EBT, Debit, Credit has been working just fine all day. If it goes down I'll let you know when I get off work.

Is this related to the 'food stamp cards being denied in California' story that was posted yesterday?

Went to use my debit card with a Visa logo on it to buy gas a couple of hours ago, and the card wouldn't go through. I had money in the account. It didn't come back "declined" it just didn't go through.

Girl at the Shell said it had been happening off and on all day. I paid cash for my gas, and then went to the bank to check my balance at the ATM. I had money but my card wasn't working there either. Didn't have time to go in the bank and investigate. Went to the grocery store and it worked fine there..I had cash in case it wouldn't have.

Strange...I had bad vibes about it...a picture flashed into my head of Obummer on the TV screen telling us he had taken over and DO NOT PANIC!!!

okay! On the phhone with Publix right now and they are BACK online with EBT and Debit... I talked to the Manager just now and she had no info on why but they did have the reset their "systems" when it was all said and done and now it works...

Was this some kinda forced update??

Either way to halt ebt and debit for days just for an update is fishy....

Well, thats good to hear - at least I know we of GLP will be the ones on top of any monetary crisis - and no access to certain funds is definitely something to keep an eye on - imho.

I've been trying to find information on how these systems work and I haven't had much luck... maybe its something kept more hush-hush so there aren't droves of people trying to exploit it? I'm left confused nonetheless.

It certainly does feel like the "bells are ringing" in most of us and yeah, maybe this was a glitch, but we all know a gamechanger is right around the corner - great job staying alert guys!!!

I didn't even notice this thread until today. This explains my experience at Walgreens the other day. They said that they had an electrical outage and couldn't accept credit/debit cards.

Seems to me if average Americans panicked over the bank downgrades, this would have worked perfectly to prevent bank runs. Just remember if you are going to panic you will need to drive to the bank and cash a check. LOL

how does it work when credit is used from a bank account?

is that the banks line of credit being used for your bank account?

and if thats the case, does it work like it works for us - we have a line of credit with a minimum to pay on a monthly basis?

And if thats the case - does that mean the money that gets taken from my account goes directly to the the establishment I "spent" the "money" at or does it go to a fund within the bank - while the bank is just paying minimums on its line of credit?
