EBT and Debit Down For Major Grocer

i am still getting NOTHING on google...can't even find who provides the service for EBT.

but that's not even related to the debit card issue.

i asked luisport on his thread if there was a chance we are having a little bank holiday, left a link to this thread...nothin'. no reply at all.

what if we are having a bank holiday, and it's to keep money from moving in the states for a few days while they attempt to stabilise the economy after yesterday's craziness?

and that's why only credit works in most cases?

because credit takes several days to clear and doesn't register right away, leaving the money in the bank.

it says coming in fall 2012. california claimed they are down till monday because they switched card providers, but that makes no sense. why would other states have the same problem? and again with the debit cards.

I wonder which debits aren't working (ie Jpm)

I know I almost always swipe as credit so I don't have to use my pin and would think the vast majority do that as well. So perhaps they just aren't noticing? I've read some people sy "some debits go through" so I'm curious if it's a particular bank.

What I find outright hillarious is mess with someone's money or livelihood directly and that's when people start to take notice.

At the Publix here in south florida it was the debit for both visa and mastercard that would not go through... but credit would...

You're probably right - a lot of people may not notice cause they just swipe for credit - most banks actually have benefit programs for using your bank card as credit and not debit.

But at Publix there were signs everywhere stating both EBT and Debit are not working - I imagine every company would have to do the same if it's down for them.

Yea same at Pilot gas stations and Aldi and Walmart (Southeast) here in Nashville.

well, sure, of course we care. if you went ot the store and did a bunch of shopping, then went thru checkout and was told your bank card or ebt card didn't work, you'd be alarmed too!

me, i don't have anything in the bank right now, just a little cash, but i care about this being an issue for others.

i take cash advances everytime i used my debit card to i have no money in my account :)

Well I'm actually headed out for the day and going to the bank to cash a payroll check then off to run errands. I'm in VA and will report back if I see anything. :)
