Miggy User ID: 1445345 United States 06/22/2012 01:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Please post State and City where EBT/DEBIT cards are NOT working, so that we can track how wide spread this is. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14270355 I agree with this. Even if you've already posted, please state your location again and whether your area is ok or not. Like this. Miggy, Northern Oklahoma. As of now all gas pumps, ATMS, Walmart, and Pyramid Grocery stores are accepting debit and EBT in my city. Or, AC, Boston Mass. Walmart currently only accepting cash. Thanks. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11911349 United States 06/22/2012 02:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | EBT was down for a day at one particular grocery chain about 3 weeks ago here in Chicago. However, that must've been something with that stores electronic tranfers since they were offering to recoup the cash that EBT customers were looking to not spend but ended up doing so, and other grocery stores didn't seem to have the same problem. This occurrence being reported today seems like it has a bit more reach than just one grocery chain. |

The cards should be canceled. Maybe it takes longer to find out if a credit transaction is good and the blocks won't hit until later. Leaving the retail merchant saying Oh Shit! There is some kind of delay with that or was at one time. |
Anne O'Mally User ID: 8565311 United States 06/22/2012 02:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | found another article, came out 3 hours ago, on the natwest issue. what i find most compelling about this particular article is this: What is of most concern is the "vow" of silence being kept to by the UK Government. Not one minister has made any public comment on this very serious situation. Usually you can't keep ministers quiet! Again, this is even more surprising given that RBS Group is 83% owned by the government. [link to judicialcat.blogspot.com] worth my weight in squirrels. |

The ongoing sovereign debt crisis in the southern reaches of the Eurozone indicate that bank runs in the region will continue, and that more bank closure “holidays” will be declared. Under a bank holiday, virtually all deposits could be frozen and irredeemable for days, weeks, or even months. the above is a mirror of the original article, but i thought it'd be good to repost the info. colonels1020 User ID: 17002335 United States 06/22/2012 02:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm guessing the banks are trying to stop all possible breaches and doing a poor job. Perhaps they blocked all debit cards that were exposed as debit transactions and running it as a credit overrides the block they put in. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12339688 That wouldn't have made any sense, at least in my case. I tried getting gas first by pressing the "Outside Debit" button and then trying my card first, both telling me Debit unavailable. If it told me debit wasn't available before I put my card in, it's got to be the debit system itself, not just people's cards. "I killed the bank." - Andrew Jackson |

Six Six Six User ID: 3753361 United States 06/22/2012 02:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | !!!!! but then there's the EBT issue. and why does debit not work but in most cases, credit does??? Just for the record Anne, I checked it out myself today... here in eastern PA state, EBT/Debit are working normally. However, I do believe this was not a system glitch... but a TEST. From the Banks/TPTB as a sample run of things to come soon. Biko |
Deej User ID: 18322740 United States 06/22/2012 02:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Isn't this a "Mini-Bank Holiday?" Think about it... the banks don't have to have an all out "bank holiday" where they say you can't withdraw your money. All they have to do is mysteriously shut down EBT. Because, thats how everyone buys things now. oops... somebody already thought of this I'm sure Last Edited by Deej on 06/22/2012 02:52 PM No matter what happens... just say "Thank You." - D W Fierce |
