I live in Central Florida, an hour away from Clearwater and we hear weird noises in the sky too. weird pulsating flashes in the sky too. normally the flashes are in one spot and do it even on different days in the same spots. I'm thinking.. HAARP!!!

Rumbling noise
Around 1:00 am, I was watching TV and heard this deep rumbling noise outside. I was concerned that it might be a tornado, associated with Tropical Storm Issac out in the Gulf, so I went upstairs to get my son to come down for safety reasons.

We both stood outside listening and trying to figure it out.
Since we live in Safety Harbor just east of McMullen Booth and in a direct line north of the St. Pete/Clearwater Airport, I assumed it must have something to do with Jet engines. I'm just not sure why they would start and stop them over and over. This went on for about a half hours.

I plan to call the airport and see if they can give me some insight to the noise. I'll post my findings if I get some.

I heard it too. And to the one who said it was due to the Hurricane...um no there was no thunder!! I assumed it may have been jet engines doing fly bys?

We too heard that noise (in Safety Harbor), and thought it odd how abruptly it would stop. Heard from a friend about his flight into St. Pete airport was coming in low and has to circle a couple of times. But that still doesn't make sense for the abrupt stops to the rumbling. Any word back from the airport?

Same thing tonight 1:40AM 8/31.. first time I've heard them.. but came across this forum. Very strange.

Became so loud just now it was almost frightening. Very strange how quickly the noise disappears.

Interesting.

Yup. Happened THREE TIMES tonight. Happens a lot. Totally strange. Strangest part has to be how the sound just cuts off like a switch.

i'm at drew & 19, i've been hearing these sounds for about a year now, at first i thought i was insane, but lately lots of people seem to be taking note.

it is most certainly not a train, a plane, construction, or anything like that. it sounds like a jet or rocket engine just constantly blasting in one position only changing to get louder or stop abruptly, only to resume shortly after, and then just stop.

always between about 1:40-4am, usually closer to 2am, occasionally between 12pm-2pm, always coming from the East/South East, tonight was the absolute worst it has ever been, it seemed to have an extra depth of loudness tonight, it almost seemed to have other secondary noises layered with in it.

I also heard it last night. My wife and I have heard it a few times before. It is easy to miss when it starts because it is not startling. If it didn't last for a few minutes, you would dismiss it as a truck, plane or piece of construction equipment. However, it persists for a while, doesn't move, doesn't change and ends abruptly.

I just wanted to give a confirmation that you weren't the only one to hear it and be curious about the source. I don't think the source would be anything that this site looks to focus on (never been here, found via Google search). My best guess is that it might come from the construction on 19 between Drew and 60. That was the direction I thought it was coming from when I stepped outside (Sunset and Keene).

I found this on YouTube

That is the sound we are hearing. The low rumble in the background, not the cicadas and other normal FL noise.

I heard it last night in pinellas park. Loud booms like explosions followed by jet engine sounds then it stops suddenly. I heard it about 9pm and again around 11pm.

Well that's interesting...
Just back from walking my dog. I live in the sticks, there are no streetlights and very little background noise. Tonight walking up and back down the track there is a rumbling noise in the the sky. Never ever heard this before. Its like a jet in the distance or an infinitely long freight train.
I'm in n.e. Scotland and the sound is coming from the coast, the east. I've just went outside again and it is ongoing. There is very little or no wind. it's disturbing what would be a normal peacefully quiet evening.
Funnily enough i was on this forum earlier, but after hearing this, when i came back in i googled 'rumbling noise in the sky' and found myself back here!
This is most unusual here.... it's now 9pm here btw and the noise has been ongoing for at least half an hour.

I've been hearing these rumbling noises for months now. They sound like thunder but there will be nothing on the radar and clear skies. I thought it could be huge trucks going by on the nearby highway but it's not. My friend who lives about 7 miles away is hearing the same thing. We are about an hour north of Tampa and near the coast. Wish I knew what it was!

Update: Its just after 11pm here and i've been going outside periodically. That noise is still ongoing so almost 2 hrs since i first went outside and noticed it, still coming from the direction of the north sea. It is the only noise to be heard where i am and is clearly audible. The weather is overcast with very light rain and next to no wind.
I wonder if this is in some way connected with the severve weather further south in the UK? 3 people dead and over 200 flood warnings in place....

Construction at that time of the AM so early I doubt it. Just confirm that you heard it and until you can prove without a doubt what it was then don't.

The mass cover up about all this stuff is really intensifying. Construction at that time of day No Way.

So much for your construction theory. To many too far apart. There was a very long duration geomagnetic storm the last couple of days. It was geo effective. These things usually touch of seismic activity in and around the area's of intensity. If you check the boards there were alot of smaller magnitude earthquake swarms around there also. The Suns causing alot of this in many different ways.

hey im honestly really surprised to see so many other people in my area hearing this noise. I live by the bright house field on old coachman and drew and i literally hear this every night for abiut half a year now with my girlfriend and my brother everytime we come outside to smoke. I thought of many possibilities like mc dill or and airplane but an airplane doesnt last like 10 minutes and just turn off like others have said. it sounds like a sonic boom like back in 2001 or so when the shuttle crashed. Im glad to know im not the only one hearing this, the sounds stopped and started bqck up again as i write this and now there are sirens zooming down drew st...am i just paranoid or is something really going on?wtf

I live in Clw too, off Belcher & Nursery area. I'm glad others are hearing it. It drives me nuts. Its just annoying enough to mess up my sleep. If anyone figures out what it is please post. Its almost like an engineer humming very loudly, then stops & starts again. I'm tempted to contact BayNews 9 to ask them about it. It really is annoying.

This stuff happens everywhere all over now. People just refuse to believe it or even listen for it. I hear it in NC at times and several other people do to. My father heard it MN as well as family members in CA,NV and CO.

It is probably some transmitter or something broadcasting something. Who knows what the hell it really is.

I did have one geologist in GA try to explain it to me one time. A few years ago he said it was an ice plate the was being super heated and it is pressure being released but he said the difference with those is that you usually had a small quake when it happened. He really did not know either but he did at least give me an idea of what it could be.

I just saw this thread. Was at family's house last night in Hillsborough County, about 3-4 miles east of Pinellas County line.

I did not hear rumbling noise, had tv on in middle of night and the building is very solid concrete and steel so if rumbling I may not have heard that sort of noise. However, at two different times about 1 hr. apart I heard something definitely outside, not from apt. above - sounded like something very, very big dropped down and hit something - very loud. Looked outside as I was only person awake at the time, second time I actually went out and saw nothing. It definitely was outside and not the guy upstairs.

Weird.

I hope some of those weird sounds and noises heard around the world would happen here in the Los Angeles area. But I doubt they ever will be because of all the freeway noise, planes and jets in the air, lawnmowers, trucks and buses on city streets, trains honking, just plain loud traffic noise everywhere.

Does the noise sound anything like this?

[link to www.youtube.com]

My bet is on the Earth's heliosphere reacting to the
large amount of in-bound astroids the past year.
Keep a heads-up for next Friday 2-15-2013, as there
could be more strange noises from the interaction
with the atmosphere and 2012-DA14. I'm running a
thread on GLP today--hope to keep it going until
the astroid fly-by 7:30 pm Australia time.
Cheers!

I just heard another round of this strange rumbling in Clearwater about 9:40 PM, 2-14-13. It sounded like a jet overhead, but the sound was constant, not fading. I called dispatch, but of course, they have no clue. It stopped after a few minutes.

Hey we just heard it too, the loud low hum in Clearwater, February 14, before 10pm. Same area, Belcher Gulf to Bay area, and it lasted maybe 10 minutes or more, then abruptly ceased like a switch was turned off, it doesn't taper off, it just stopped. Then it started again. There's no directional movement, just stationary sound for a long, long time.

It has been raining all day but no thunder here.

The only thing I could liken it to was once when a large blimp/airship flew right overhead and there was a low loud hum, but this is alot louder, and a lot wider in scope, and it's not moving anywhere.

Also there was a very brief two second power outage in the neighborhood before the sound started. It's really loud, doesn't sound like anything normal, not thunder, not jets, not construction, not wind. I mean it's not a normal noise, and you can hear it both inside and outside. Has a frequency to it as it seems to be in the air above. Really bizarre.

Thanks everyone for posting. I went looking online for explanations of humming sounds + Clearwater and found this thread, and see that others hear this sound too. Wow. What is it?

As someone above wrote, it does sound similar to the video in this link. [link to www.meetstheweird.com]
