It's just a continuation of the school lunch program over the summer. For some kids, school lunch is the only meal they get all day.

And it should be just for the kids. It's not their fault they were born to lazy ass parents who won't even slap together a peanut butter sandwich for their kid.

Actually, the free lunch program is part of the "free and reduced" lunch program. It's not based on laziness factor but overall household income. Ie. a family of 4 that is surviving on an income less than $30k for free lunches, $30k- $42k for reduced (reduction is regressive as income increases). In my school district, lunch costs $117 a month for my two children. It's actually more than my electricity bill--go figure.

Another thing to consider--it's an employers' market. Nearly every professional that I have known who has been laid off over the past 4 years has ended up working elsewhere for $10-$20k less per year. An entry level accounting position in my city makes just over $30k a year. That would be for a CPA with 1-3 years accounting experience and a 4 year degree. Now is it really laziness or is it that employers know that they can get employees really cheap right now because of competition for jobs? I'd say the latter of the two and at least I'm backing up my allegation with actual numbers instead of politically regurgitated rhetoric.

It is really disheartening how low some employers are paying now. I am looking for work and am realizing I will most likley have to take a 20% pay cut or end up looking for something for months if not longer.

A lot of jobs are also temporary assignmenets, 3 months, sometims less. I don't want to take a temp job as a first choice because I would end of having to look for work again after the contract ends.

Not to change the subject. I just wanted to say that I understand how hard the economy has been since getting laid off from my job of 5 years.

Back on subject, going to elementary school we didn't qualify for free food. We did how ever get to work in the cafeteria once a month for a couple days and I remember being so excited to do it. We got extra lunch and dessert on Wednesdays. Now, did I think about child labor laws? No, I was having a blast and I got a treat. Lol.
