I don't know...memory can be a tricky thing...

It's like that game where you whisper a sentence to one person and have it travel thru different people and at the end find there is no relevance (or very little relevance) to what the first person said.

An information field is only ever that...data...we (beings in what ever physical or non material form we are in at any given location) are translators of our environment...utilizing what ever means we have...our body..senses...etc.

I've no recollection to anything prior to human so I can't compare other than my dreams which for the most part are devoid of human form...perception is more sensual...feeling...emotive I guess...there...no relation at all to physical structure...so memory..or the need for memory:

the processes by which information is encoded, stored, and retrieved. Encoding allows information that is from the outside world to reach our senses in the forms of chemical and physical stimuli.

I guess really wouldn't be relevant...now that you point that out...unless a physical structure were present that would require it.
