I live where the mall roof collapsed in Ontario Canada(updates)
I live in the city where the mall roof has collapsed...

last night was the worst night yet as they call off the rescue mission because it was to dangerous to continue

This has our whole town turned upside down....

just going to start a thread for information...

I was across the street in another store when this occured...so glad my car turned left to go prep instead of right in too the mall or me and my daughter would have been a part of that collapse

here is a part of a news release

Rescue efforts called off at Ontario mall collapse

The site of a collapsed mall roof in Elliot Lake, Ont., is too dangerous for emergency crews to continue their search-and-rescue efforts, officials said Monday afternoon.

"This structure could fall at any time without notice," a grim-faced Bill Needles from the Heavy Urban Search and Rescue team said at a news conference.

"This could be a devastating collapse."

The decision to pull rescue crews from the site was made despite the fact that workers earlier believed there were still signs of life within the rubble.

So far, officials have only been able to confirm one death.

The precise number of people missing and unaccounted for has fluctuated since a section of roof at the Algo Centre Mall collapsed.

At one point, the list had since grown to include more than 30 names, Ontario Provincial Police Insp. Percy Jollymore told reporters earlier Monday.

tomato

as I drove by that area yesterday the streets are filled with news crews and the people of the town lining the streets...this will devestate our local economy as no almost everyone in town has lost their place of employment

please reframe from slandering this thread..there are still people trapped in the rubble and they are still unsure of how many fatalities there are, and this whole town is greiving over the loss of friends and loved ones

Elliot Lake mall rescue efforts set to resume

1 confirmed dead but unclear how many were caught in debris

Search and rescue efforts are to resume today at a partially collapsed mall in Elliot Lake, Ont., where one person has been confirmed dead, after officials drew the ire of local residents for calling the mission off and following an appeal from Premier Dalton McGuinty.

However, it remains uncertain when or how the search efforts will happen after emergency officials cautioned at a news conference Monday night that details of the operation remain uncertain.

They are going to resume it...but there is much wrong with this mall..many of us in town always figured it was going to happen at some point and time..

I can picture what they are talking about as I have been in that mall thousands of times to shop....as the structure sits and if they resume the efforts they are going to have a very hard time...as debris is still falling from the outer edges and the escalator is hanging on by a thread and if the escalator goes then it will crash through the front doors...

also what they don't say about this is all the water that is inside along with the back wash of sludge from the over hanging pipes when this first occured...the grocery stores is on the first fllor and all the meats in there will now be attracting bugs and vermin...the list goes on and on

I saw that on the news last night. It was so sad, there was a man crying because his wife is the one trapped in there and the rescue is called off.
I can't even begin to imagine how he feels right now.
So sad.

Elliot Lake mall search to involve dangerous gamble

Ontario premier says searchers will begin dismantling building from the outside

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty said today that crews at a partially collapsed mall in Elliot Lake will resume search efforts with the goal of dismantling the outside of the building — but he warned that the new strategy has its risks.

McGuinty told reporters he got the approval of Elliott Lake Mayor Rick Hamilton and Mike Mantha, MPP for Algoma, for "additional, extraordinary measures" and that he has asked Prime Minister Stephen Harper for resources that may involve military aid to help in the search efforts at Algo Centre Mall.

McGuinty warned, however, that "people need to understand there is real risk associated with [dismantling the building from the outside] because of the collapse and the structural stresses.

Thank you for the local updates on this very sad story. So sorry to hear this is happening, so tragic.
"How can the breakaway civilization operate with impunity? There is a vast secrecy about outer space and inner space. Inner space is consciousness. Eight billion people have to have their inner space shut down, through mind control, so that the outer space program can be kept secret.

Divorcing inner and outer space from each other is the core goal of all elites. It always has been. My commitment is to ending the divorce. Then we would be privy to an astounding kind of knowledge. Not just new information, but a new kind of information. We would see with new eyes." - Jon Rappoport

This is outrageous. The military needs to be in there NOW getting anyone OUT. FUCK. There is still hope for survivors, it has been 3 days but there is STILL HOPE.

How many are in there!?!? Sometimes they say 2 and then they say as many as 30.

This is terrible. Just fucking awful. There is NO EXCUSE to call off rescue efforts if in third world countries people are brave enough to go in after people.

If it was my family member in there I'd force my way in. I'd want to try. It would break your heart to know they are in there with NO HELP COMING.

Can't believe they were still using the roof as a fucking parking lot after KNOWING it was dangerous. Yet another avoidable tragedy perpetrated by corporate fucking greed.

Yes there were MANY many people saying the building needed serious repair or to be condemned. They kept using the roof parking lot even though it was obvious it was decaying!!!

They were fixing up the roof in parts, the part that collapsed wasn't being fixed up.

TOTALLY AVOIDABLE SITUATION.

Absolutely disgusting. As a Canadian and an Ontarian I am ashamed of the owners of that mall.
