Toronto Outrage! Disaster Experts Diddle At Conference As Mall Collapse Victims Languish
Hard to believe, but the world's foremost Emergency/Disaster Managers are at a big conference in Toronto, Canada, while a local rescue team in Elliott Lake (9 hours away by car, a hop by plane) were so disorganized, ill-equipped, and clueless they actually CALLED OFF RESCUE EFFORTS, even though the sound was heard of a survivor in a collapsed 2-story mall building. Reports of people missing in the mall have ranged from 9 to 30 and now to 12.

"As rescuers in Elliot Lake work frantically to reach people trapped in a mall collapse, experts from around the world are in Toronto to talk rescue strategy at a disaster management conference." - Globe and Mail (link below).

The people of Elliott Lake, Ontario, want the Canadian Army, they want heavy mining equipment, they want to volunteer to move rubble themselves. They wanted it yesterday.

They wanted it on Saturday at 2 pm when the collapse happened -- Part of the roof of the parking garage of the town's central Algoma Mall caved-in, collapsing down to the two floors below.

Instead of help, Toronto sent a busload of Policement With Tazers and Nightsticks to keep people away from the site of the disaster. No kidding. They also requisitioned donuts from Tim Horton's a mile away. These are the same goons who helped out at the G20.

Finally today Tuesday, the Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, got in touch with the rescue team and the town mayor and suggested they get together at a table and try to think out a plan to go back into the building, or start making an entrance from outside to work their way in to the danger zone.

Just tonight, 9 pm (EST), heavy mining equipment did finally arrive, but it is in pieces and has to be assembled before work can begin.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is doing their usual half-baked coverage, including their top story tonight:

"HALTING ELLIOT LAKE RESCUE WAS THE 'RIGHT DECISION'"

Updated CBC story:

"ELLIOT LAKE MALL SEARCH TURNS TO 'SERIOUS' MACHINERY"

I repeat, this happened Saturday afternoon. It is now Tuesday night.

The purported 'leader' of the rescuers says that not one life of a rescuer should be put at risk.

Jim Bock, the unit commander of the Ontario Provincial Police's urban search and rescue team, was at the conference all weekend, but communicated with members of his team in Elliot Lake today BY TELEPHONE.

A comment on the CBC news forum, or rather several comments, from a man in New Zealand who was involved in the rescue of people after the Christchurch earthquake, has indicated that internationally it is well-known that Canada has no state-of-the-art emergency equipment, and that is why New Zealand didn't expect any help from Canada at the time.

Unfortunately, the Canadian people have never learned the truth, and they are now in shock at what is happening at Elliot Lake.

Precious hours were wasted during the 'Let's call the whole thing off' farce.

This is the same reason why Canadian Forces trot after the Americans in various war zones and get themselves killed. They have bad equipment, bad support, and suffer even worse neglect when they return home than American vets.

Meanwhile, Canadians pay through the teeth for government military fraud, as the infrastructure of the country rots away.

This week in Toronto, on a major downtown highway, "The Gardiner Expressway," a falling piece of cement smashed into an automobile. The elevated roadway is falling apart piece by piece.

Montreal has seen a major collapse of the structure of an underground subway, and at long last a dangerous major bridge is going to be replaced.

No one is safe, while these politicians play their games.
