A debunker is a government paid shill that frequents GLP and hoists the BS flag without just cause. Anonymous Coward User ID: 53222 Canada 12/14/2005 01:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Bunkers: People who are always full of shit. Know-it-alls. eg. Circuit Breaker Dr (ya right) Postman Dr (ya right again) P User# 5683 Molesworth You should note their arrogance and constant use of insults and the term woo-woo. They always all stay on the same side of every arguement because they are paid to be. Debunkers: Those who expose the lies of the bunkers. They are mostly normal or average people posting about interesting observations with curious intellects and usually good spirits. The Bunkers have highjacked the word Debunkers and taken it as their own and this is just one example of their normal corrupt natures. Everything is spin with them. Many people at GLP can now see right through them and they fool only themselves now. It's tough Karma for the fools. |

The Lone Ranger User ID: 51267 New Zealand 12/14/2005 01:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | debunker = Idol(glp poster). aka: the :tp: poster!! de·bunk ( P ) Pronunciation Key (d-bngk) tr.v. de·bunked, de·bunk·ing, de·bunks To expose or ridicule the falseness, sham, or exaggerated claims of: debunk a supposed miracle drug. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- de·bunker n. Word History: One can readily see that debunk is constructed from the prefix de-, meaning “to remove,” and the word bunk. But what is the origin of the word bunk, denoting the nonsense that is to be removed? Bunk came from a place where much bunk has originated, the United States Congress. During the 16th Congress (1819-1821) Felix Walker, a representative from western North Carolina whose district included Buncombe County, carried on with a dull speech in the face of protests by his colleagues. Walker later explained he had felt obligated “to make a speech for Buncombe.” Such a masterful symbol for empty talk could not be ignored by the speakers of the language, and Buncombe, spelled Bunkum in its first recorded appearance in 1828 and later shortened to bunk, became synonymous with claptrap. The response to all this bunk seems to have been delayed, for debunk is not recorded until 1923. Life Is But A Dream!! It is sad indeed that the bunkers have taken the title of debunker upon themselves. But no matter! A bunker is someone who'll believe anything but the truth. They are also called kooks, woo-woos, True Believers, astrologers, prophets, Ufologists, Zidiots, planet exers, and fucking morons. They are usually paid by the gov't to act stupid on GLP A debunker is someone who exposes bunkers for what they are. |

Debunker, yes. Performs critical thinking and analysis on the argument of questionable post, to render logical inconsistancies apparent. When I first arrived, I found it to be helpful to know the nature of posters on message boards. Some only start fights (trolls), some are paid to tell one side, they are called (paid) disinfo artists. Adamic Seed User ID: 53310 Canada 12/14/2005 10:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ---- This is a rant and not on topic: I see GLP is still logging us out when we try to make a meaningful, well researched and composed, spellchecked post. I mean, if I can't cant come up with e=mc2 or some nugget for mass comsumption within 4 minutes then I must be a peice of garbage, log me out! I'm a waste of GLPs time! "Give us lies instead!" GLP seems to be suggesting to me, "they're quicker to produce, and generate more ad traffic". And while were at it, why are we still sent to the forum thread list when we click to 'post'? GLP you are just slowing down your own servers and increasing your bandwidth fees, as well as confusing and annoying your posters. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 5855 United States 12/14/2005 10:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | the root of "debunker" is not "bunker" as in a shelter, but rather "bunk" the slang version. "bunk" defined as BS, hokum, horse hockey, something false. so if someone makes an argument that is "bunk" then someone else comes along to point out the falacies in the original argument .... he/she has "de-bunked" the original argument. the person doing the "debunking" is a "debunker" |
Monty User ID: 2477 Canada 12/14/2005 10:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | One has to consider the ACTUAL usage of a word rather than merely dictionary proposed usage. In our current world, skeptics are people who weigh all of the facts with a critical eye...and 'skeptic' is probably what many debunkers would like to be if they could open their minds. Debunkers in actual usage are just close minded people who refuse to look at facts and who then attack on an ad hominem basis any who would attempt to add facts to their minimal knowledge base. |

The woo-woos have just gotten into the habit of using the word "debunker" incorrectly, and as is typical they refuse to admit that they are wrong even when confronted with facts to the contrary. (In this case, any dictionary.) And BTW, it should be "closed-minded", not "close minded", but I'm sure you will find a way to convince yourself that you are correct. |

A debunker looks to their desginated leader for answers because they lack good analysis skills of their own. A debunker usually has very limited experiance and knowledge offering little to any discussion. A debunker is often unruly and disruptive. |

That is why there are dictionaries - so people can understand what the other guy is saying. If you insist on using private definitions, don't be surprised when people don't understand what you are talking about. |
