WTH?? Border Patrol Agents Taught to "Run Away" and "Hide" when Encountering a Shooter in a Public Place
Unfreakingbelievable.
Is this website actually associated with the
Border Patrol?
It seems that it is to me, but considering their
opps, I find it hard to believe they would be
allowed to speak against the authority the way they
do on this site.

06-20-12 In another nauseating series of "Virtual Learning Center" brainwashing courses that Border Patrol agents are forced to sit behind a computer for hours and endure, we are now taught in an "Active Shooter" course that if we encounter a shooter in a public place we are to "run away" and "hide". If we are cornered by such a shooter we are to (only as a last resort) become "aggressive" and "throw things" at him or her. We are then advised to "call law enforcement" and wait for their arrival (presumably, while more innocent victims are slaughtered). Shooting incidents cited in the course are Columbine, the Giffords shooting and the Virginia Tech shooting.

These types of mandatory brainwashing courses and the idiocy that accompanies them are simply stunning when they are force-fed to law enforcement officers. Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that any three of the above shootings would have been stopped cold by an off-duty law enforcement officer or a law abiding citizen with a gun. The Fort Hood shooting would have been stopped cold by someone with a gun as well. The shooters in these situations depend on unarmed and scared victims. It gives them the power they seek. We could go on and on with examples of shootings that could have been stopped by someone with a firearm. One of the videos in this course actually shows a terrified female hiding behind a desk as an example of how to "hide" from some deranged shooter. Multiple quizzes throughout the course and a final test ensure repeatedly that we know that we only have three options when encountering some murderous thug in a public place. 1. Run away; 2. Hide; and 3. Only put up a fight as a last resort by acting aggressively and throwing things at the shooter. Not one mention anywhere of "if you are carrying a gun and you have the opportunity take the shooter out".

Ok, just noticed that they have this on their site:

"This is not an official Border Patrol Website.
The contents are provided solely for union members"

SO, not an official site but apparently they do
represent members of the BP if they represent union
matters??

I can't think that any BP officer would think
this is a good way to control a situation.
I wish that site had comments. I'd love to see
what their reaction is to this "advice"/

Incorrect. An officers job is SUPPOSED to be to put the safety of citizens first.

The entire definition of their job is to enforce all laws, not to choose which laws are safe to enforce and which might be dangerous.

I'm the opposite of a hippy, you draft-dodging fag. And I look forward to the day when all the 911 responders just let the phone ring. Because 48 hours after that, crime will drop about 90%, because people like me WILL handle things ourselves. Frankly, I'm more afraid of dealing with the legal machine than I am of any criminal or gang.

And btw, an officer's job is to uphold the law and protect the citizenry, period. Anyone can run away from danger and collect an eternal pension on the people's dime. It takes a special individual to join the military, police force, or border patrol and put everyone else's life ahead of his own. And that special type of individual doesn't need to be dumbed-down or chickenshitted-up to avoid his duty and his gut instinct by some affirmative action transsexual in the HR department who wants more sensitivity from the brutes on the beat, which is exactly where this sort of crap comes from. Progressive bureaucrats with a love of cock always come up with these Leon Panetta-flavored clustertraining ideas. No talking about Muslims when discussing Ft. Hood, no using guns when under fire, it's disgusting. They want to turn everyone into Democrats.

Doublefuck you.

op, officer safety comes first, Every officer i know has standing orders to stand down if they are approached by a force larger than them.

No where does it say the police are to sacrifice themselves in the line of duty.

I'm all for officers being safe and taking precautions.
If they are unarmed, then yes, they should call 911.

But, if they are armed and face a dangerous situation,
I can't believe that they would think that
"running and hiding" is the best thing to do.
I would think it goes against everything they stand
for and are trained to do.

The article states that no where in the training video
does it state "if you are carrying a gun and you have the opportunity take the shooter out".

Is it supposed to be implied? The person who wrote
the blog did not seem to think so.
