I always remembered them saying how high prices were to heat our home, and that all it does is keep rising in price. They said they wouldn't be able to afford to heat our home soon. Quoting: WatchmenOnTheWall The price was 15 cents per gallon in 1964. Sounds crazy, but true. How much is home heating oil per gallon today? Now that's inflation! Yep, and guess who has the greatest control of inflation in our society. The Fed Reserve and it's policies! I wish I could strangle every last person that continued to argue left/right angles into the discussion after this post had been made. Cut out the root of the problem, and all the branches that feed from it will wither and die. |

My dad made about 7,000/year. My parents owned their own, modest house, we had one car, one television and a radio. We didn't vacation, but we lived near the ocean so my parents (rightfully) considered that a vacation. We didn't own a lot of stuff. We weren't well off, but I never felt poor. Now even "poor" people own tons of useless crap. I don't know, maybe we just lived with what we had. Quoting: INK3 7000/year would be work 144,000/year today..... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 846701 United States 06/27/2012 10:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You forgot a few things, the price of bread actually went up. The cost of production of bread is up because of stupid regulations, FDA, city approvals, and numerous other fees and constant inspections (since it's a food plant). Back in the 50's, it wasn't so bad, but now it's worse than bad. It's true people got fucked over by inflation, but they also got fucked over by so many other things which companies just raise their prices to meet the costs of production. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 846701 You don't know what you are talking about. 50 or 60 years of engineering innovation trumps regulation every time. Also there is no shortage of any resource. No way in hell is bread 50 times more expensive because of regulation. You just drank the Kool-Aid. Its all TPTB theft, theft of our lives. lol I don't? Try and open a factory then dumbass and see how much money you'll spend just to even get power. Fucking clueless moron. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 821124 Sorry, but I can't buy your first sentence. The Legislative record clearly shows a consistent pattern of Demos siding with the so called "common man" right up to the present. Although the last few years the pattern has begun to change. Blame campaign financing as the culprit here. Then we have the consumate REPO in the person of Grover Norquist. Check this troll out carefully. What you fail to comprehend is that techniques improves constantly from the standpoint of technological utility. That means all products require less and less energy to create and hence should be more affordable. All that is happening here is the deliberate impoverishment of the American and yes all other people under the heel of the Elite, as the hereditary psychopaths see themselves, elite. |

It is in every household. It is the basis of wheat/flour. Thus can moderately determine how screwed we are. Great post. I've had the niggling feeling that real wages have fallen over the decades - the myth of the one-earner family was real, once upon a time. A better example is: Filling your tank with gas- $50.00. Lunch at work- $8.00 Getting your haircut- $40.00 Buying that perfect outfit to wear when you preset yourself to the boss to get a raise- $172.00. Didn't get the raise, gained weight from lunch, haircut sucks and after one washing the outfit fell apart. Confession: I drive a big car and I filled the tank from fumes $95.00- Lunch was at nice take-out- $16.00- Haircut was $65.00+ $10.00 tip and $3.00 for the shampoo assistant. Shit Hell.. My point is I'd rather quit my job pay no taxes and use the system to get a EBT (food stamp card) and assistant living. I can move from NYC and live in N.J. but that is not my point.. We r in a final moment. No one can afford this false economy anymore except the 1% and we better get prepared for the fallout.. It ain't gonna be pretty.! |

The problem is that PMs LIMIT the amount of currency a nation can issue without clearly demonstrating inflationary policies by increasing the ratio of paper to metal. By leaving the PMs backing this allowed the unfettered creation of money with NO constraints. |

In 2010 the relative: 1. historic standard of living value of that income or wealth is £16.60 2. economic status value of that income or wealth is £43.50 3. economic power value of that income or wealth is £50.80" So if I understand the above, one pound in 2010 is worth one-sixteenth or even one-fiftieth of the value of a 1962 pound! |

Perform the same conversions with gold and silver and you will see how relatively constant they have remained. You can still buy the same goods and services with the same weight of these metals. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 713727 Gold and silver can essentially be thought of as products that maintain their value of exchange in relation to other products. If a gold standard is needed , then we are doomed. You cant have a gold Standard with 16 trillion in national debt, or 320 million people. You must have loyalty to a nation before you can have a gold standard currency . We use to have it, but not anymore. Americans own nothing in this nation anymore. I bet we dont have diddly squat in gold at fort knocks. Nothing in this world can keep up with this kind of debt, spending, and inflation EVER. Gold, labor, fiat, blood, nothing. Fort knocks is empty, cant remember, I think it was in a video about President Reagan, it mentioned something about using the gold at Fort Knocks to payoff gov. bills. Even Fort Knocks is empty, wow anybody remember Godlfinger? |
