I see them every night now, at least a couple every night, are they really just satellites?

I have been watching the skies for a long time, now I can see these things easily every night. Even if they are just satellites, why am I seeing them so often now? Are they putting more satellites in lower orbit? Do all satellites shine like stars? Do satellites brighten up and fade sometimes? I am open to all suggestions, I just don't understand why I can see them so easily now, it is at the point that I can see them with a casual glance at the sky.
