Ok I see this point. Very true. But, if you know RP is not going to get the vote and it's between two murders.... One lets your children die a slow painful death or the other who makes it quick, are you still not going to vote? It's not always about selling your soul. It's about the reality of the situation. For some maybe it is fear inhibited, but for others it's about which is a hair closer to my beliefs. There is no way RP would vote for Obama before Romney. And this is coming from someone who doesn't like Romney either. I'm just DONE with Obama, that I will vote for Romney. If RP doesn't slam in the poles, forget it. Well, this sort of does that. If you are forced to give a huge amount of your income to insurance companies, that is a form of limit.

my wife doesnt have insurance because we cant afford it. i am the only one working.

my children are covered under BCBS NC state ins, which is called health choice...a form of medicaid.

my cost for family coverage, we cant afford. but the kids are covered as stated above.

question is what does this mean seeing as how my wife does not have coverage?

SHR you know more about this clusterfuck than I do-- can ya give me an idea what this means for me as a small biz owner? Isn't there a limit on how many employees you have to have before you're liable for the mandate? I think I'm pretty close to that number and may have to make some (unwanted) cuts. I imagine I'm not the only one.

Just think how easy new taxes will be now that Obama knows that the people can be forced to buy anything...this is a massive expansion of government power in multiple venues.

Depends on what your income level is. If you're under the federal guidelines for below the poverty level, then you get free medical becuase you will qualify. anything over the poverty level and you pay. But I could be wrong, who knows? shit they change things so damn much it's not funny. Hell for all we know it could be that poor folks have to pay, who the hell knows anymore?

The US Constitution was rendered irrelevant today. It it truly the "living breathing" document liberals have longed for. In other words it means whatever they want it to mean. A document that was intended to restrain the power of the federal government by precisely enumerating its powers, can now be used to infringe on every personal liberty.

The commerce clause was intended to have a very limited scope, namely to ensure barriers were not erected to interstate trade. Today's ruling ensures that any activity, or inactivity for that matter, which has an impact on commerce can be regulated by the federal government. Of course, that includes everything. There no longer remains any contraint on the exercise of federal power and personal liberty is now subservient to the "greater good" as defined by liberals.

Apparently Roberts determined that the the mandate was a tax instead of an exercise of federal power under the commerce clause. This is a distinction without a difference. And it means the outcome is even more devastating than it first appeared.

Regardless of whether you call it a penalty or a tax, it is designed not to raise revenue but to regulate commerce. The administration argued as much. And of course they argued when passing the law that it was not a tax. It would never have passed congress if they had done so.

Regardless, the penalty/tax is designed to bring healthy individuals into the system to spread out the cost of insuring those with pre-existing conditions. The core purpose is to regulate commercial activity, to force people to engage in a particular commercial activity. The tax/penalty is just the means to that end regardless of what you call it.

According to Roberts' logic, the government can regulate any activity/inactivity, not just commercial activity, simply by calling it a tax. That's bullshit and it's a distinction without a difference. The effect is the same. The opinion gives lip service to limits on federal power and yet it places no limit on the exercise of federal power under the commerce clause or the tax clause. It's contrary to the letter and intent of the constitution in both cases.

It's incredibly disappointing that a republican appointee provided the deciding vote when Kennedy was willing to strike down the entire bill.
