Some of you people are nuts.

I cannot get turned down now because of cancer I had a few years back.

Also, I am paying an crazy amount out of pocket because I am self-employed...and the previous diagnosis...just major medical so I have to pay all my doc bills anyway.

This would save me TONS of money and will never have to deal with rejection because of my previous illness will be nice.

Just because you are hell bent on hating Obama...don't pretend that this is not a GOOD THING for poor, working poor, middle class and those with pre-existing conditions!

Gawd. Wake up.

I, for one, will enjoy not having the insurance companies rape me with my clothes on.

Well good for you asshole, but I AM the working poor and this is going to put my family in the fucking poorhouse!!

We already CAN'T AFFORD insurance, and don't qualify for Medicaid because we are BARELY above the cutoff!!...NOW we will have to shell out an additional 2000 a year that we already CAN'T AFFORD!!!! My newborn baby will SUFFER because of this, because that is now money that is going to the GOVERNMENT rather than other household expenses.

It has NOTHING to do with hating Obama, you stupid fucktard.

But I'm glad YOU are going to be better off. Most of us DON'T have pre-existing conditions!!!

They should just include people with pre-existing conditions into Medicaid!! Rather than make the rest of us pay a TAX!

Do you work at McDonalds? Or do you have over the top accommodation in living that it cost's you a monthly leg and arm? Get rid of your netflix, get rid of your 1000 TV channel line up, get rid of your xm radio for your car. Hell, get rid of your car and get one that's 20 years old and your insurance will be almost non existent due to it being a "classic" no matter the make or model.

I see this crap everyday. It's never the persons fault right? Let me know when you been on the streets for years without nothing but a coffee can and 1 daily packet of ramen noodles.

No, my husband works a job that does NOT have benefits, so NONE of us have coverage, but we make BARELY enough to just NOT QUALIFY for government benefits.

We DON'T have a fucking TV.

And we SHARE one car for the whole family.

This means that my husband uses the car to go to work, except on days that I have to take our newborn to doctors appointments, then I take him to work and drop him off.

Don't fucking lecture me on household luxuries. We can barely afford our monthly bills, which are as follows: RENT, UTILITIES, CAR INSURANCE, MEDICAL BILLS. The only fucking "luxury" we have is our phone bill and internet.

If we were any poorer, we actually WOULD be able to get benefits from the government!! As of now...we are going to have to shell out MORE to the government when we are barely making ends meet. So fuck off.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6313471

The good thing for you is that under Obamacare, unless you live in a state with a Republican governor who refuses to comply, Medicaid will be extended to people who make 133% of the poverty level. You will now have insurance for free.

Ummmm.....

All that "TONS of money" you are not going to have to pay.

Surely.....surely you don't believe the insurance companies are just going to eat that? Surely you don't think the "rich" are going to pay it?

NOOOOOO!!!!!! It will be us low, middle and upper middle class who will be busting our asses even more to make up the difference for you.

Just because the insurance company isn't raping you with your clothes on doesn't mean they won't be raping us for your bills.

SOMEBODY will pay.

Why do you think they have to have us (the very people who want to be left alone) included?
You need us to pay for it.

I don't really expect you to give a damn, just saying.

And to use your words GAWD.....wake up!!!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6421666

The insurance companies are already paying it. I got an Obamacare refund from my insurance company a month ago. If they use more than 20% of your premium on anything other than paying for treatment, they have to give you that money back. They are now going to make billions more, so they'll gladly cut margin. Trust me, I analyze their data. They are all partying tonight.

Re: OBAMACARE Calculator. How does it affect you???
I look at healthcare like this.

1. If I cant afford it out of pocket and it isn't life threatening, I ride it out. (cold, sore throat, genital herpes, etc.) There are a lot of home remedies/over counter meds for these things that most doctors visits can be avoided.

2. If it is where I need thousands of dollars of work. Fuck it, let me die.

I mean all the people elected to govern us need their private planes, armies of security, they have a whole media network to manipulate us that needs maintaining.

Banks also need bailouts because we cannot survive without them.

We have a military to fund so we can finish taking over the world.

One thing I still cannot find in the constitution is where it says they have the right to make us buy something. Is there a old and new version now on the document?

They did it to the bible so was just wondering.

Well, under the Affordable Care Act, there will be a number of options for you to choose in order to get health insurance as of Jan., 2014. And if you can't afford it, the government will subsidize your cost. And Medicaid is set to expand to include people above the official poverty line, but your state governor will have to opt into that plan.

But since you're so deadset on your point of view -- won't listen enough to learn anything -- probably a dunderheaded Dittohead -- it's no wonder you're "so poor."
 Quoting: Lurker 6356307

No, the government will tell me I *can* afford it (even though I can't) because that's what they're ALREADY telling me, because I am just above the cutoff! And there are MANY others who will be just above this cutoff as well. And so...I will now have an extra monthly expense that I would NOT have otherwise had. You say "there will be a number of options for me to get health insurance...blah, blah, blah..." Guess what my option is NOW? I don't HAVE to get insurance!!

The government should not FORCE me or anybody else to purchase insurance! That's the point. But since you are so gung-ho about giving the government your money, then by all means go ahead and do so!! But don't impede on others' liberties and tell me or your neighbors that they MUST purchase insurance as well!! It's a fucking TAX!!

You're a liar. If you are paying a crazy amount for health insurance it is because you are old and have a pre=existing condition. Group health insurance does not necessarily mean your coverage is going to be less expensive. Comprehensive major medical coverage will have a deductible you choose and a coinsurance amount so you are NOT paying all your doc bills, you are paying the "re-priced" amount which is net the discount all health insurance companies negotiate with the docs. FACT: The ACA will NOT save you money. It is actually going to INCREASE the cost of health insurance and i will prove it to you in a moment, and secondly, there are GUARANTEED ISSUE HEALTH INSURANCE PLANS available to every man woman and child in this country regardless of pre-existing conditions or income...

read this...
Prior to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), 42 states allowed heath insurance rates to vary by age by a ratio of 5 to1 or more (5:1). These ratios are based on the broadly accepted premise that utilization of health care services is correlated with age and that health insurance only works if younger and healthier consumers are part of the risk pool. Age rating ratios of 5:1 or 6:1 strike a careful balance: they provide protection to older consumers without making it impractical for younger consumers to purchase insurance.
Starting on January 1, 2014, the new law restricts the age band to a ratio no greater than 3:1. Further instruction in the law directs the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in conjunction with the NAIC to establish standard age bands. Impact of 3:1 Age Bands on Consumers
States have adopted rating rules in the small group market (and to a lesser extent the individual market) to promote greater stability, facilitate pooling across the marketplace, and assure more stable and affordable premiums. State rating rules attempt to strike a balance between promoting market stability and sound risk pools, while at the same time retaining incentives to assure that younger, healthier individuals participate in the coverage marketplace. States recognize this balance by allowing health insurance rates to vary based on the age of the enrollee and, in this way, encourage younger individuals to purchase coverage with more affordable rates. For example, in a state with a 5:1 age band, the ratio limits the amount an older individual will pay to no more than five times more what a younger individual pays in premium dollars. This level of rate variation is intended to balance the need for adequate risk-pooling and affordability, recognizing that strict limits on premium variation based on age (e.g., 3:1 or 2:1) has the effect of driving up premiums for younger individuals. The ACA will require modified community rating in the small group and individual markets and will limit premium variation based on age to 3:1. This represents a dramatic and likely destabilizing change in how rates are regulated in state insurance marketplaces. If one of the goals of health reform is to make coverage more affordable, requiring 42 states overnight to change their age rating bands
from 5:1 to 3:1 will signifi cantly increase costs for individuals aged 18-34. According to an actuarial analysis by Oliver & Wyman, moving to a 3:1 age-band will increase premiums for young adults by 35-45% in states that currently operate under a 5:1 age band. By comparison, individuals aged 55-64 are estimated to experience premium decreases of approximately 12-13% as states transition to a 3:1 band. The Effect of Rate Shock on the Market Individuals 18-34 years of age make up over 30% of the individual market and also comprise the fastest growing segment of the uninsured. Individuals in their twenties are more than three times as likely to forego coverage as consumers aged 55-64.2 These individuals are often uninsured because their employers do not offer coverage, they do not immediately need (or foresee the need) for medical services, and/or the cost of coverage is prohibitive. Younger individuals and families that are subject to rate shock (a consequence of collapsing age bands overnight) are even more likely to forego obtaining coverage or may even drop existing health coverage. As younger, healthier individuals drop from or fail to enter the risk pool, a market spiral goes into effect in which costs rise for those who keep coverage, thereby serving to further discourage younger, healthier individuals from keeping or obtaining coverage.

So let me understand this.

People are complaining who can't afford Health Insurance now.

Well if you cannot afford it now who is paying for it when you go to the doctor? I think that would be me Mr. Taxpayer.
Never let facts get in the way of your misplaced anger about you paying more tax because you can no longer burden the system without paying something for your access to health care.

I am a registered independent that didn't vote for Barry last time and won't vote for him this time. For the life of me I cannot find how Obamacare hurts me the little guy that is currently subsidizing all the non paying medical users who treat the emergency room like their own primary physician.

I pay for my own insurance and my family is healthy and it costs me about $12,000 a year for crappy coverage that is no where near as good as the coverage I had working for an employer that used to cost me about $4000 per year.

According to the calculator my cost based on the parameters will be no more than $7000 per year My math says I am putting $5000 back into my pocket.

For you that are commenting about Cancer patients you really better hope you never get sick. Your comments identify you for the bottom feeders you are.

But I'm glad YOU are going to be better off. Most of us DON'T have pre-existing conditions!!!

They should just include people with pre-existing conditions into Medicaid!! Rather than make the rest of us pay a TAX!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6313471

So getting insured hurts your newborn child? How did you pay all those baby hospital bills with no insurance? Do you expect resposible people to keep paying for your medical expenses? Lazy welfare wanabees should stop having kids they cant afford to insure. Both me and my wife work like dogs to just pay the bills we get no helf and are still able to afford isurance for our 3 children. Neither of us has over a highschool education. What is your excuse?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2021011

Hey...illiterate asshole. We are not ON fucking welfare. I totally believe that you only have a high school education, because if you were capable of reading my post you would fucking see that.

Yes, having to pay for fucking Obamacare WILL hurt us, because where we go now offers services on a sliding scale, and the amount we pay for well-care visits is LESS than what we will NOW be fucking paying for Obamacare, and we pay OUT OF POCKET!!

And not that it's any of your FUCKING BUSINESS, but we had insurance for prenatal care prior to one of us having to leave our job due to a cross country move.

So you can take your sanctimonious bullshit and shove it up your ass.

According to the calculator 5 family members, Married Purchase HI now income less than 100k
Your coverage:

Right now:Your insurer cannot set a lifetime limit on benefit payouts. Any annual limits will be phased out by 2014.

Your insurer cannot cancel your plan after you get sick based on a technicality, or discriminate against your children if they have a pre-existing condition.

You may also be entitled to coverage of preventive services without out-of-pocket charges.

If you are an adult under age 26, and one or both of your parents have a health plan, they may be able to put you on it. If you have adult children you can probably keep them on your plan until they are 26.

Starting in 2014:You will have the option of buying a health plan through your state’s exchange with federal assistance. Based on your income, your annual premiums for that plan would be no more than $6,440 to 7,600. Your maximum out-of-pocket costs for deductibles and co-payments would be capped at 30 percent of the total cost.

Insurers cannot discriminate against you for having a pre-existing condition, and can only vary rates within a narrow range.

I am a family of 6. My coverage is a $5200 deductible, 90% coinsurance H.S.A. Qualified High Deductible Health Plan (QHDHP) group policy through the employer. I pay $510 per month or $6,100 annually. The cost of your policy will be directly reflective of the deductible. By 2014 i expect my premium will increase 12% = 610 or $6,700 per year.

The policy you are describing for $6,400 will be approximate to my deductible for family coverage. It's just cost shifting. WHat size deductible and coinsurance do you now have for $12,000 per year? Are you really saving money or improving value by cost shifting to a higher deductible for a lower premium?

When we started looking for HI my wife takes a med for Pre Menstrual Mood disorders. We had a quote of about 12K per year for a policy who then preceded to jack up my wifes premium by double. Shopping around we ended up using USAA to find a plan (since I'm a Vet). Ended up with Assurant which is a $5000 deductible per family member max of 10k 70% coinsurance with $35 co pays. It is a shitty plan but what we could afford being that we are healthy. My previous employer constantly changed plans every year due to costs spiraling out of control. Every year my contribution costs rose and I had to keep opting for less coverage for my family I was 80/20 when I left with 10k deductible. If I had kept the plan through Cobra my costs would have been 15k per year from the previous employer. I have Med and Dental and am not sure if I can compare the 2 plans side to side but I expect it to be a wash if I was looking at 70/30. My insurance cost increases on average when I was covered by an employer were in the 15% to 20% range annually a 12 percent increase would have been like getting a raise :)

For individual coverage look at 1200 deductible 100% or 90% H.S.A. plans with WellPath (Coventry) or Blue Cross Blue Shield. An H.S.A. plan (QHDHP) with a 1200 deductible for a single is a 2400 deductible for family. In my state, WellPath (Coventry) is HealthAmerica. HealthAmerica, BCBS and Aetna are the most competitively priced plans. Go online and get an online quote. let me know what you find out. You might consider putting the children on CHIPS in NC and going to one of the others for you and wife. Assurant is pretty bad coverage and the only way they can compete is by cutting coverage.

Highmark (PA) BCBS Individual coverage for full family - age 25 to 29- $2400 deductible 90% coinsurance, maximum out-of-pocket $1,000 then 100% coverage, major medical comprehensive PPO plan - $383.05 per month

Re: OBAMACARE Calculator. How does it affect you???
Some of you really are unbelievably selfish with your views on health care and looking out for your fellow man.

I am from Australia, where since 1975 we have had a publicly funded universal health care system called Medicare. We receive subsidised (sometimes free) treatment from medical practitioners and FREE treatment in public hospitals. For this system we are required to pay a further 1.5% of our earnings in tax (except very low income earners who are exempt), plus those who earn over $70,000 and do not have any private hospital coverage pay an additional 1% surcharge.

Some years your average healthy person wont visit the doctor or have a need to go to hospital, however they are still required to pay the Medicare tax. This is just how it is done in Australia and it is an exceptional system. Most people don't complain as we all tend to benefit from Medicare at some point or another.

Regardless of how much tax I have to pay for Medicare I will never be unappreciative of a system that leaves no one behind. Hopefully the Affordable Care Act is a step in the right direction for the US.

Here's the part that I don't understand (perhaps someone with better economic experience could explain it). If you can't afford Health Insurance to begin with, how are you going to be any better off when you not only cannot buy Health Insurance but you also have to pay a humongous tax on top of everything else? And any family making $18,000 (or more) will be paying the tax. That's $1500 a month, and for a family that's not a whole lot by the time you pay all your other bills.

And for those who think that "only the rich" are going to be required to pay the tax, wait until they move the "poverty line" way down. A whole bunch of poor/really low income families are suddenly going to find themselves included into the "Middle Class", at least as far as all those 6,000 new IRS employees are concerned.
