No you are nuts....read this again.

If you have been unable to obtain health insurance as a result of a pre-existing medical condition, you may be able to buy it through one of the “high risk pools” the law has set up in each state through the end of 2013. But the premiums in the pools vary and can be high.

Now, listen carefully. You cannot be denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions.

By law you have to buy insurance now.

So by law you will be forced to get it, only problem is your bill will be close to 900.00 a month or greater.

If you think this is a good thing, then shout it out and stand proud.

You won't be able to afford it, yet you will be required to get it. Now, how do you feel?

I remember reading about these pools a few months after obamacare passed. In every state that had a high risk pool, very few people participated, as the premiums were too high.

Mr Stein,
NC
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18800517

For individual coverage look at 1200 deductible 100% or 90% H.S.A. plans with WellPath (Coventry) or Blue Cross Blue Shield. An H.S.A. plan (QHDHP) with a 1200 deductible for a single is a 2400 deductible for family. In my state, WellPath (Coventry) is HealthAmerica. HealthAmerica, BCBS and Aetna are the most competitively priced plans. Go online and get an online quote. let me know what you find out. You might consider putting the children on CHIPS in NC and going to one of the others for you and wife. Assurant is pretty bad coverage and the only way they can compete is by cutting coverage.

Highmark (PA) BCBS Individual coverage for full family - age 25 to 29- $2400 deductible 90% coinsurance, maximum out-of-pocket $1,000 then 100% coverage, major medical comprehensive PPO plan - $383.05 per month
 Quoting: Frankenstein

FS I checked into all of that Coventry was who we were set to go with until they jacked my wife up more than double of the initial quote because of a prescription that's $4 per month because the drug is used to treat other issues besides what my wife takes it for. They wouldn't speak to us (HIPA) Nor would they let us plead our case. She went from $160 per month on the plan to $345. I am double the age of a 26 year old so my premium although there has never been a med issue is in the low $200 per month. I have called about Chip but I am well above the 200 percent threshold.

Re: OBAMACARE Calculator. How does it affect you???
This is a short-sighted and extremely partisan calculator. It does NOT tell how Obamacare will affect you, because the truth is that NONE OF US KNOW YET how Obamacare will affect anyone when:

1. Doctors quit the business by the score.
2. Doctors quit seeing medicare/medicade patients all-together.
3. Employers stop carrying insurance for their employees.
4. People start becoming irate because they live healthy lifestyles and are being forced to pay for those that don't.

Too many variables. No one knows what will happen.

Right now one person covered by employer insurance is
around $500.00 a year.

If we have to get BO's crap...we would pay over six times that. Fuck that shit! I didn't ask for any fucking ins.

Yep, sounds like a winner BO.

You are exactly correct. FACT: The BCBS Preferred Blue PPO Guaranteed Issue (no medical underwriting, no pre-existing condition exclusions) rate for a $1000 deductible plan in PA is $868 per month for a single and $2,589 for a family. For a $500 deductible it is $971 for an individual and $2,895 for a family. THis is about what we will be required to pay because the young folks will prefer to pay the penalty or tax than a much higher health insurance premium. THis in turn drives up the cost of health insurance for everyone else. The ACA WILL absolutely positively drive up the cost of healthcare to levels that will be damn near unaffordable for the average wage family. They will have no choice but to pay the tax.... check mate, federal government.

Re: OBAMACARE Calculator. How does it affect you???
I am sure this has been mentioned. People need to understand that just because you have insurance doesn't mean you have no out of pocket costs. My husband and I pay $6,000 a year for the two of us to have insurance. we have $15 doctor visit fee and $30 for prescriptions.

At my last company the cheapest plan was $80 a month. But your out of pocket for the year was $2500. That meant you still paid $80 a month, but had to spend all of the out of pocket before the insurance would cover anything. So if you went to the doctors 5 times and the each visit was $100 you had to pay. Now if you broke your arm and the bill was $3000, you would have to pay $2500 or what ever was left for your out of pocket.

So just because you're required to have insurance doesn't mean you still won't be paying out of pocket.

I am very happy about the pre-existing conditions. Having had brain surgery and hip surgery (with more hip surgeries in the future). We pay a lot though for this coverage.

Re: OBAMACARE Calculator. How does it affect you???
If the cost of the penalty/insurance is more than %8 percent of your income then you are exempt from both penalty and insurance.

Pre-existing conditions will no longer prevent you from obtaining insurance since (just about) everybody will be paying in.

If you make more than $200,000 a year you will pay %.09 more in taxes.

Unfortunately the Supreme court ruled it unconstitutional for the Federal Government to force states to expand their medicaid programs even if they pay for it.

This means that depending on what state you live in depends on the availability of the insurance.

This is mostly a fancy expansion of medicaid that puts tougher regulations on insurance companies.

No, my husband works a job that does NOT have benefits, so NONE of us have coverage, but we make BARELY enough to just NOT QUALIFY for government benefits.

We DON'T have a fucking TV.

And we SHARE one car for the whole family.

This means that my husband uses the car to go to work, except on days that I have to take our newborn to doctors appointments, then I take him to work and drop him off.

Don't fucking lecture me on household luxuries. We can barely afford our monthly bills, which are as follows: RENT, UTILITIES, CAR INSURANCE, MEDICAL BILLS. The only fucking "luxury" we have is our phone bill and internet.

If we were any poorer, we actually WOULD be able to get benefits from the government!! As of now...we are going to have to shell out MORE to the government when we are barely making ends meet. So fuck off.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6313471

Here's the part that I don't understand (perhaps someone with better economic experience could explain it). If you can't afford Health Insurance to begin with, how are you going to be any better off when you not only cannot buy Health Insurance but you also have to pay a humongous tax on top of everything else? And any family making $18,000 (or more) will be paying the tax. That's $1500 a month, and for a family that's not a whole lot by the time you pay all your other bills.

And for those who think that "only the rich" are going to be required to pay the tax, wait until they move the "poverty line" way down. A whole bunch of poor/really low income families are suddenly going to find themselves included into the "Middle Class", at least as far as all those 6,000 new IRS employees are concerned.
 Quoting: Eggcellent

According to the ACA payment calculator, any family making less then $30,000 will get medicad for free. My personal premiums will go from $12,000 to $5,000. $7000 that can go into my saving and the economy.

Based on your income, your annual premiums for that plan would be no more than $6,440 to $7,600. Your maximum out-of-pocket costs for deductibles and co-payments would be capped at 30 percent of the total cost.
$536-$633 a month to insure my family. Yea, sounds about right. Guess we will end up on the welfare exchange. What a bunch of BS!

That is not accurate. When pre-existing condition exclusions are eliminated in 2014, all policies will be guaranteed issue. No medical underwriting. The ACA will mandate policies be underwritten on a 3:1 instead of 5:1 age band which will have the net effect of increasing premiums 35% to 40% for insureds between the ages of 29 to 39. As the younger folks go into shock over the increase many who have coverage or who have purchased coverage will opt out and pay the far less expensive penalty tax. The result of this will be additional increases across the full age band spectrum. We call this the death spiral. The fed is going to make a lot of money on this scheme.

Well good for you asshole, but I AM the working poor and this is going to put my family in the fucking poorhouse!!

We already CAN'T AFFORD insurance, and don't qualify for Medicaid because we are BARELY above the cutoff!!...NOW we will have to shell out an additional 2000 a year that we already CAN'T AFFORD!!!! My newborn baby will SUFFER because of this, because that is now money that is going to the GOVERNMENT rather than other household expenses.

It has NOTHING to do with hating Obama, you stupid fucktard.

But I'm glad YOU are going to be better off. Most of us DON'T have pre-existing conditions!!!

They should just include people with pre-existing conditions into Medicaid!! Rather than make the rest of us pay a TAX!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6313471

So you're just above the current cutoff (100% FPL), yet the law will expand medicaid to 133% of the FPL, so if you are "just above", then you will be able to get medicaid. So where's the problem?

And even if you were "just above" the new 133% cutoff, lets say you are in the 133.01-150% bracket, your maximum ANNUAL premium for a family of four would be $992. If you believe that $82/mo would be overly burdensome for a family of four to get healthcare, you're delusional.

Seriously people?!?!? Someone PLEASE explain to me how this is ANY different than me being "forced" to pay for car insurance or risk paying a fine? Even though my record indicates I have never had an accident nor have I ever had a ticket. I am a low risk, low income, customer, yet still forced to pay...whether I want or need it. It is called,... say it with me now...PRE-VENT-A-TIVE!! A concept most of us greedy, selfish Americans are all to unfamiliar with. In a nation where our doctors strive on pharmocology, and are trained to never let a patient leave the office with out an RX and us patients being trained to never leave a Dr. office with out some sort of "fix" for what ailes us.If you do not currently make more than $200,000 per year, your employer currently provides you afforable insurance, or you are living below the poverty level...well, don't you worry your pretty little heads. The world as you know it will remain the same. For those of you who have been affected by the cost of actually providing for your own healthcare based off your currect income, or those of you how earn a quarter-million dollars a year and will now be "forced" to help others by facing a 0.9% tax increase, a word of advice, which was once given to me from a Republican..."don't by expensive jeans or cigarettes and your should be fine." Mr. Frankenstein, so the end result of the death spiral is the end of private insurance? Is that correct? Premiums are raised and people drop out, then the cycle repeats till no one is left who can afford the staggering premiums? Then we are all on the govt. option and hello socialized medicine? You need to drop your current medical and opt into a program that does a community paid benefit. Meaning people who pay out of pocket and not paid for by taxes. A single fee everyone has to pay, regardless if it cost that much to be told if you have the flu or not, any extra $$ from the previous person gets moved to the next person.
 Quoting: AbsoluteTruth71

Not sure what you're not getting here...we don't HAVE current medical. That's the point. The reason we don't is because we can't afford it. And now we will have to pay this additional monthly tax.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6313471

It's not going to be an additional monthly tax. It is going to come out of that big fat tax return you get each year that you blow on big screen TVs.
