no tips, but have fun5a
 Quoting: 12.21.12

Thank you kindly. I have been told it will be about 120 degrees and we will be on the raft and average of 6 hours a day.

Do you think 2 30-packs of adult beverages will be enough?

I've read in "Into the Wild" that it is very
expensive to do and every Year only a
limited Number of Visitors are allowed
to do so, is this right and how much
do you need to pay?

Must be fun, enjoy!

My sister did it.

Make sure you bring a camera! The pictures she took were absolutely incredible. Have a blast Z. She did!
 Quoting: Swinging on Spirals

Thank you Spirals. I am told it's a blast. Actually,...the guide is a poker buddy of mine and he talked me into going.

Sure be and eye-opener if anything is in this world.

My thing with the camera, is that ever since I went on the Hopi reservation it has bugged me. You see, they do not want picture taken of them because they believe it entraps the soul somehow.

I am trying keep actively creative and current in my experiences. IDK,...the pictures never seem like me when I look back, they look like someone I used to be.

You'll be amazed at how cold The Colorado River is!! If I recall it's around 45F coming out of the bottom of the Glen Canyon Dam, even in the middle of the hottest of summers.

Hahahaha,....yes, I think we put in Glen Canyon right? And exit Lake Powell. I have always wanted to do Powell, it seems like a buried treasure.

I hope the water is cold. I am supposed to bring some kind of cotton thing to keep wet and wrapped around me.

Yes, I have hear this too. I am going as an assistant to my friend who got me in. I really do not know how much it costs. I waited about 2 yrs for him to get me in though.

I will miss work for the 2 weeks which is about $1200 lost on my part.

They kill outsiders, steal their food, tip over the rafts and tie the bodies to it.

you have never experienced a lake until you experience powell. Glen Canyon dam is the same size as hoover dam but just a few inches shorter.

Lake Mead and Hoover on one end of the canyon and Lake Powell and Glen Canyon at the other end.

Lake Powell feeds Lake Mead which is constantly drying up. Lake Mead is like a soup bowl a very unattractive lake, but gets the hype because it is close to vegas. Lake Powell on the other hand is drop dead gorgeous and stretches into utah for miles and miles with everything from canyon walls you can climb to indian ruins you go in and hydroglyphs(sp) its all so amazingly beautiful and fun.

Make sure, when you get to The Phantom Ranch, that you buy the t-shirt. You can't get it at the rim or anywhere else.

I took the mules down, stayed at the ranch three days and then mules back up.

Make sure you've got extra batteries for your camera. The prices at the ranch are HIGH.

Glen Canyon Dam may have been the one we started out at. Does Lee's Ferry ring a bell because that's where we were at.

I would post a pic of havusupai but it's too big and photobucket is screwed up right now and won't take the edit.

It's not as bad as you think. You don't sweat, the air is to dry. It will suck your body dry given the chance. You cannot drink to much liquid. Pay close attention to your "cotton mouth". The moment you have that feeling means your body demands liquid and you're already behind.

Re: Going on a 2-week rafting trip through the Grand Canyon,...
I agree with you OP on "moments in time" stuff. Photos are nice, but be sure to personally experience the surroundings - don't hide behind a camera.

Also - WATER WATER WATER WATER... did I mention water?

Unfortunately hundreds of tourists find themselves in trouble out west by not having enough water. it may not FEEL hot in the shade, even in 120 degree weather, because of the 0% humidity, and you don't sweat, so dehydration comes on sudden and hard.

Other than that, have fun. If you are going with a tour group they should be able to make sure you are all safe and sound.

If you tromp over to Sedona, and like to go off roading (no tour guide), stop at Sedona ATV and Buggy [link to www.atvsedona.com]

great people, good prices for the area, great equipment, and they make sure you have everything you need!

Anyway.. have a blast .. and I repeat - WATER.
