Not too familar with the details of the new health care law, but I do know that a similar policy has been in effect in Massachusetts for like 6 years now (implemented by Romney) It has actually made health care much more affordable for the average person. No matter what your history, someone my age (31) can get a pretty decent plan for around 400 per month. That’s a lot cheaper than it was before the mandate. Health insurance companies cannot refuse you or charge you more because of your history. Also, for those who are unemployed and/or underemployed, there are plans with companies supplemented by the government. Thus, my husband was able to get a health plan for no money after he lost his job. In those plans, your premium is based on your income, sliding scale. It has actually made things much better here as far as I have observed, and I have an extensive medical history. Survived cancer as a child and have several issues as a result of the radiation they gave me as a baby. Prior to the mandate, it was much more difficult for me to get an affordable plan, and if you are not able to go through an employer based plan, then yo mind as well forget about it.
