well I'm glad you finally agree that this does occur. see I think we are on the same page, my point is merely that the system needs more checks and balances so that individuals like this cant game the system and defraud all of us. there are many more instances of these things occurring, this is just the one you hear about because they got caught. we cant afford to allows this unsustainable system to continue without some sort of discussion and a great place to start would be a discussion as to whether people should be able to use their food stamps and welfare benefits to buy cigarettes and alcohol. I am of the opinion that they should not be able to buy anything but food, gas, and necessary household items. I agree with Jackie and I gave her $100 yesterday not cause I feel sorry for her, but to reward her for her commendable actions!

Those cash benefits could include child support or disability.
Neither of those are welfare.

so it's ok to buy beer and cigarettes with child support? no it is not, that is for your child and if he is drinking and smoking then you need to be locked up. should people spend their disability on it? I don't think so either, it's a benefit that is provided by the state to provide basic needs for those with disability. cigarettes are not a basic need.

This isn't about the system. Clearly she only had a problem with it when a 20 yr old wanted to buy some Marlboros. She wasn't out pounding the pavement trying to get the system reformed, she wasn't writing officials, she wasn't doing anything. She had a pissy day and decided to get fresh with a customer in front of other customers knowing full well she was violating policy and denying someone a purchase that was completely legal.

This is about an employee thinking she's above the law, above company policy and allowing her personal feelings on something to interfere with her job. She has no legal right to deny that customer something he is legally allowed to purchase. It's that simple.

If she has a beef with how funds are being spent she can handle that outside of her job where she wont get fired. Her making a stand against his purchase didn't serve her well. She got fired, she'll probably end up milking the system. She's old, she's got no marketable skills.

Let me add that I take issue with the welfare system. I've been very vocal on this forum about that, but again, that isn't what this is about.

When I worked there was much I didn't approve of but it was my job to carry out my duties in a certain manner and I knew that I either did it or I was out on my ass.

Exactly, my old job I had to give settlements to illegal aliens who had to provide little to no ID and was not the same rules for our own US citizens..DID I like it HELL NO, but it was a job and that was the rules. I could have fought it and lost and ended up jobless but that wont pay the bills.
