Re: I'm not psychic. Ask me a question.
Ah, I never said I went to school for it (well I did a bit but still). I just enjoy the conversation..the making of new plans, the seeing where they have strengths and weaknesses, the ability for a group of people to come together and build upon the concept, add to it, integrate it, strengthen and grow the pieces until they become a whole...work into it the responses of humans, and bend it until they respond in the way intended by the structure we have created. All that rather than bickering over the damn thing.
 Quoting: skittle

Interesting . . . I was forced and volunteered to study it for years . . . It was my job . . . But when I found out most of it was totally orchestrated for the
profit and benefit of the few I lost my passion for it. . .
 Quoting: George B

The way I had come to accept it was something like:

Imagine yourself in a prison as a prisoner. You grew up there, went to school there, and will probably die there. You of course take the side of the prisoners, both due to ethics and because you are a prisoner yourself. However, at lunch time sitting with the prisoners gets dull..the vast majority of them only seem to want to in-fight and ignore you when you try to get them to help in planning an escape. They're more interested in making moonshine in their cells, getting laid in the shower, and showing that they have power over other prisoners through petty squabbles based on nothing more than what colour shirt they were given by the prison laundry person.

Now, the guard's table is of course the table of the enemy. And yet when you sit down with them they act civilized and they invite you in. The quality of food is 1000 times better, the quality of conversation is superb, and they appear to actually use their brains in speaking and understanding each other, including understanding you. You find yourself drawn into the conversation despite the topic being the suppression of the people whose side you are supposed to be on (and for almost all intents and purposes are on). You might even fall in love with one that understands you and can keep their side of a conversation after first trying a series of failed attempts at empty relationships with prisoners.

You're still sitting in the prison, you know ethically that you should still be trying to ignite sparks of protest in the prisoners. But, you also know after years of trying that is a hopeless cause. So, you sit at the table, you use your mind, and you tell the prison guards exactly how to finish locking the chains.

Make the prison walls invisible, and you have my life.

If you could would you want to be????
 Quoting: George B

In a few situations, yes. Being selectively psychic would be awesome as long as I could filter out all of the mundane thoughts people have.

Interesting rationalization . . . I guess I have always identified with the underdog . . . so I identified with both sides and really belong to neither . . . all of us are prisoners of our fears and desires . . . so I live to learn and understand and do as little harm as possible . . . trying to find as much love and beauty that might exist here and endure the rest . . .

Re: I'm not psychic. Ask me a question.
I have this memory of being very young and being dropped off at the Hopi promise rock by a school bus with a couple of other kids. I also remember getting bored and doodling on the rock when the bus was taking forever to get there. Other days we were in huge fields moving the dirt and rocks around. It makes it hard to take childlike carved images seriously. Do we really feel so unsure of ourselves that we have to base our deepest knowledge and stories on the etchings of children?

Here's the express way down that path, although it misses a few stops:

(Taken from other thread)

"She worked in medical research. I'm guessing she just saw a cash cow of an opportunity and had the kind of access to the lists of qualities various trials were looking for (and what they paid). There's some question of alphabet agency affiliation and I suppose there's a possibility that may be how I was trafficked, but I'm sure if they were buying she would have sold me to them too. "

Children's drawings may be very significant, but you usually have to ask the child what they drew or else you'll be standing there telling them that's a very nice drawing of space when instead it's a fire truck.
Does it matter if it's significant or not if no one can accurately interpret the thing?

Lol. That's a deep dark bending rabbit hole. How do you tell a story before it's over? How do you tell a tale so fucked up that the mind bends and will eventually reject it just from listening, never mind what the actual experience does to a psyche? I know what I lived was not classic, but it's so far from the experiences of the general population that I'm pretty sure at this point only the "prison guards" have enough perspective to accept it. Telling the tale to those that can't grasp it is a bit like the disappointment of attempting to get my analogy "prisoners" to dig a hole out.

Maybe there's some tiny bit that can be segmented off. But the closest I've gotten to an independent bit was touching with a very light hand on the medical trials.

That's the question of does science do more harm than good. When they fail to produce the desired result do they instead go into the population and select someone that already has the desired trait and then claim that trait was due to their work? If it were eugenics would they have a point?

Is there long term damage? Yes. To someone part of that might that be considered a benefit, but they would be the one benefiting and not me.

Are there long term benefits? Possibly. But how do we know that's not them putting a new label on something that already existed?

My mind works in strange ways but not having compared it to the minds of others, how do I know exactly how different it is? I have a photographic memory that can go through a scene frame by frame once I find a starting point. It doesn't age or fade. Is that normal? If I am creating a structure in my mind I can see it visually in front of me and examine it from every angle until I find a way to finish the structure in a way that everything can run smoothly..like creating a visual intricate maze with moving parts, human behaviour equated for, etc... Is that normal? I don't know. I can also forget any memory on command...that I've been working on to reverse because it seems like a bad idea to have. I'm also finding I didn't really erase those memories, just hid them, which is even more interesting.

My body (heart rate, etc) responds in the opposite manner to stimuli than how it does in your average person. Is this beneficial? In some cases, yes. I can respond calmly during times of panic...in fact those are the only times I feel alive, heightened, normal, my heart rate slows and everything becomes crystal clear. Other than that I think it's actually shortened my life span and allowed me to sit still through things I really should have run from. It's also made me a risk taker because the only time I feel normal is during crisis. During the everyday boring life I'm sitting here with a combination of speeding heart rate and blood pressure so low that I'm nearly dead.
