I hate numerical answers. While we're throwing things down the memory hole someone should rewrite that bit until it's more interesting.

If you drive at land level you will only see a large mowed field. If you stay overnight you will run into people that for all intents and purposes look like the aliens described by UFO nuts.
I spent a winter by one of those. I slept with the lights on.

Crop circle. . . .good guess. . . These are pictures from space of a large city in Arizona and Hales Crater on Mars. . . .

Those images are on another planet, aren't they?
I'm looking at the same thing on earth where I was living...giant perfectly round circles at least 100 acres wide in a close pattern with each other.

Now I'm going to go all UFO nut lol.

Sort of yes. . . .the image on the right is a photo of Mars and is most likely JPEG compression artifacts caused by the algorithm used to compress and decompress the pixels in the image. . . However, it does look awfully similar to habitation images of high altitude earth pictures. .. .

How about these. . . .which is earth and which is other?

The way I had come to accept it was something like:

Imagine yourself in a prison as a prisoner. You grew up there, went to school there, and will probably die there. You of course take the side of the prisoners, both due to ethics and because you are a prisoner yourself. However, at lunch time sitting with the prisoners gets dull..the vast majority of them only seem to want to in-fight and ignore you when you try to get them to help in planning an escape. They're more interested in making moonshine in their cells, getting laid in the shower, and showing that they have power over other prisoners through petty squabbles based on nothing more than what colour shirt they were given by the prison laundry person.

Now, the guard's table is of course the table of the enemy. And yet when you sit down with them they act civilized and they invite you in. The quality of food is 1000 times better, the quality of conversation is superb, and they appear to actually use their brains in speaking and understanding each other, including understanding you. You find yourself drawn into the conversation despite the topic being the suppression of the people whose side you are supposed to be on (and for almost all intents and purposes are on). You might even fall in love with one that understands you and can keep their side of a conversation after first trying a series of failed attempts at empty relationships with prisoners.

You're still sitting in the prison, you know ethically that you should still be trying to ignite sparks of protest in the prisoners. But, you also know after years of trying that is a hopeless cause. So, you sit at the table, you use your mind, and you tell the prison guards exactly how to finish locking the chains.

Make the prison walls invisible, and you have my life.






In a few situations, yes. Being selectively psychic would be awesome as long as I could filter out all of the mundane thoughts people have.

Interesting rationalization . . . I guess I have always identified with the underdog . . . so I identified with both sides and really belong to neither . . . all of us are prisoners of our fears and desires . . . so I live to learn and understand and do as little harm as possible . . . trying to find as much love and beauty that might exist here and endure the rest . . .

Underdogs are nice.
