I used to work for a health insurance company
They laid off some senior staff and one company outsourced its entire billing dept. I quit awhile back, anyone know how obamacare will affect employment at health insurance companies? I'd imagine with Universal Healthcare, that will put insurance companies out of biz but we are not at that point yet.

Honestly I think that is the long term goal of Obama. But it depends on the greed of the insurance companies.

If the insurance company raises rates because of greed poor people won't be able to afford it. The govt will then pay it for them.

The poor then collect benefits and the insurance company has to raise rates to keep profits up. Now the lower middle class can't afford it. And so on and so on until most of the country is having the govt pay for their insurance.

At which point the insurance companies go bankrupt and we have to create a single payer universal HC system.

If this is the plan then i support it completely.

The meaning of health "insurance" definitely has changed. It used to be for catastrophic events. It turned into covering everything except a couple things. It sucks that I have to pay high premium because of fat fucks that won't take care of their health.

Insurance companies are in business to make profits. Don't blame them for high costs. Blame fat fucks.

AIG bailout was an outright scam, AIG insurance was protected and did not need bailing out.
The insurance arm had 0 risk to any of the debt.
It was simply Goldman and JP wanting the government to pay for their illegal insider trading profits which of course were non existent as AIG alternative investments could never pay them.
AIG alternative should have filed bankruptcy and GS and JP got nothing.

Again, that's not what insurance really means... I said It was originally for catastrophic events. How did it turn into a plan for preventative and treating chronic health problem?

What we have is already socialized health care for people that are being forced to pay at high premium care. Does it matter if gov't takes over? Will the quality of service go down due to rationing?

You're not thinking clearly or looking at the big picture.

Damned if you pay a lot for good fast service but damned if you get screwed by very high premium if fat fucks don't take care of their health.

Damned if you pay low to be treated by gov't healthcare. Damned if you wait a long time before you see a doctor because there's not enough money around for fast service.

Take your poison either way.

I was watching a guy on the news last night say he could easily hire more people, but he plans to keep it under 50 now.

Also, all those very young will just opt to pay the fee instead of buying insurance like the whole plan is based on.

ObamaTax totally leaves out the human factor in this same as everything else the libs have done.

Bingo, it would be cheaper. I read an article stating that AT&T could just pay the penalty instead and they'll save a massive amt. The rich corporations win again.

ObamaCare is not Universal Health Care. All ObamaCare does is force all Americans to purchase private health insurance. So it is going to be a huge boon to health insurance companies.

ObamaCare was nothing but a big love gift to the insurance industry which gave tons on money for Obama's campaign. It doesn't fix any of the problems with the overpriced health care in the United States is just forces every American to buy private health insurance, of with the companies can take up to 20% for profits and overhead. So your premiums are always going to go up to maintain corporate profits. Only 80% of every dollar Americans are being forced to pay for health insurance actually go to health care. We are being fucked over big time for health insurance profits.

If you don't buy the health insurance you pay an ever escalating penalty. If you don't pay the penalty you go to prison.

Obamacare will NOT force you to buy private health insurance. There is the govt. option (i.e. state exchanges)Eventually, the private insurance companies will be forced out of business because they will not be able to compete with federally funded healthcare. THEN we will all have universal healthcare and god help us. This has been the goal all along.... to have the govt in control of your healthcare,

Health insurance is a profit driven industry. That is the reason premiums are so high. Every American could be in optimal health and you would still be paying the same amount for health insurance.

Take the profit out of paying for health care and negotiate drug/hospital costs. Those are the only things that will bring the cost of health care down in the United States.

You all do see that Obamacare will drive private insurance out of business, don't you? You will NOT keep your current healthcare in the long term. If you currently have great healthcare, you will eventually be kissing it goodbye. I am sorry if you do not believe this but it is an open secret of Obamacare.

Re: I used to work for a health insurance company
State exchanges simply list private health insurance companies. The only true "Universal Health Care" in ObamaCare is expanded Medicaid for the those at 133% the poverty level. Everything else is private health insurance.

Now it could be that in the next several years most Americans will qualify for Medicaid and that would drive us to Universal Health Care but I doubt that will happen as corporate profits, not health care for Americans, is the actual reason for ObamaCare.

Bear Ridge, I respectfully disagree. Corporate profits are not the reason for Obamacare. It is all about the expansion of govt. and govt. control. In the long term, the private health insurance industry will be driven out of business and we all will be on universal care. This is the dirty little secret.

This bill was practically written by the insurance companies.

Primarily Liz Fowler who was Vice President of WellPoint, one of the largest health insurance companies in America is credited for laying the foundation of this bill.

Psych, the private health insurance companies have been OPPOSED to Obamacare. They see the writing on the wall down the road. Also, all the articles I have read on Liz Fowler say that she despised her position at Wellpoint - specifically because they opposed healthcare reform.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you. I worked for third party billing for a major pharmacy chain and I can tell you that the insurance industry is NOT going to help the poor. It just isn't structured like that.

People are going to die because these companies are going to force regulations on what they will and won't have to pay on. There are going to be "approved" drug lists and if the drug you want or need isn't on it, you probably won't even be able to get a prescription for it.

People are going to die because the insurance companies are going to refuse treatment and by the time it gets to court to force treatment, the patient will have already died. It will be cheaper for the insurance company to pay off the relatives of the deceased than to provide treatment.

Just you wait. These are for profit companies and they are wily and have tricks up their sleeves that you people haven't even dreamed of. It's kid gloves off now and you will be treated just as poorly as the poor are going to be treated, and trust me, they will be treated like crap. Welcome to the bottom, people.

I remember when healthcare only covered big things. Like surgery, broken bones, some parts of childbirth. But that was about it. You went to the doctor, paid him/her, got your prescription (which Docs didn't give out that often). You either got better or you didn't. You didn't lose your house 'cause you couldn't pay, or worse, subsidize others that couldn't pay. Why can't we do that anymore? BTW, doctors made a decent living back then. What the hell happened?
