REAL WORLD Prepping
Many threads on here about prepping.

I would like to point out some long term prepping that people don't seem to take into account.

1. Learn how to grow food.
2. Learn how to CAN food.

The 2 items above need to be learned before the crap hits the fan.

It is a piece of cake to point a gun at an animal and shoot it.
The same can not be said about growing something and preserving it.

Re: REAL WORLD Prepping
I'm prepped to the gills but not really looking forward to the deprivation lifestyle, especially at my age. What I do remember from my childhood in the 1950s is that without all this technology the days go by more slowly and there seems to be time for everything that needs to be done in a day.

I think about the Native Americans a lot and how they managed to survive for tens of thousands of years without roads, electricity, metal, and the internet. It can definitely be done but it will be a creative challenge for us. Communities will spring up eventually and we may end up in a hybrid sort of pre-industrial civilization. The more we learn now, as you have said, the easier it will be. And just think how VALUED your knowledge and experience will be by those who couldn't be bothered to get ready.

It won't be easy and I'm sure there will be a lot of weirdos and power trips, but one thing for sure, being on GLP for the last eight years has honed my bullshit detector to a razor's edge....cool2

Canning is not difficult, but you do need the equipment. You will need canning recipes and you need to stick to them.

Growing food is not difficult if you are willing to do the research.

There is a learning curve with both things. At first that curve is very steep. As with anything else good research helps a great deal. I have canned and gardened for several years and come from a family that always has.
