Salt heals - Base Human (Brain Function/Health) Necessity
Note: This OP was originally written during the infamous 2012 Bath Salts Craze, thus the reason for the "attitude". I have now edited it only to include the useful points regarding salt and our health.

How does salt conduct electricity and sugar not conduct electricity?
...
[link to wiki.answers.com]

What Happened? The salt dissolves into the water and breaks down into "ions". which act as a conductor. Fresh water does not have these ions, therefore it cannot conduct the electrical current.

Electrical signals transmitted from one neuron to the next are a basic form of communication in the brain. The myelin layers that oligodendrocytes wrap around neurons boost these signals so that they travel 50 times faster than before.

These bath salts that are talked about are not actually salts, they are only sold as 'bath salts, not for human ingestion' for legal purposes. These are basically a type of amphetamine stimulant.

Wikipedia
Methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV) is a psychoactive drug with stimulant properties which acts as a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI). First developed in 1969, it remained an obscure stimulant until around 2004 when it was reportedly sold as a designer drug. It is also known as Cloud 9, MDPK, MTV, Magic, Maddie, Black Rob, Super Coke, PV and Peeve. Products labeled as bath salts containing MDPV are sold as recreational drugs in gas stations and convenience stores, similar to the marketing for Spice and K2 as incense.[1][2]

I think I'll use a programming reference here.
Java != Javascript.

Bath Salts does not equal salt.

It's named that because it appears to LOOK like salt, chemically they are two completely different things. BS thread.

Interesting you mention this! I learned about it recently and ordered some. It is a very pale pink and supposedly better for you than the run of the mill (of course) and even standard sea salt.

It tastes like...salt, and I think it's cool that it's pink. I like to try new things so I'm glad I did! (and yes, supposedly rock salt--hence other minerals contained therein)

my concern; is it "rock" salt, if so even with all the benefical minerals that Himalayan Pink has maybe it would be best to use Sea Salt. I use Sea Salt and have not tried Himalayan Pink so can't compare the two. What I have read is that rock salt is a cause of cholesterol, that, being abrasive, it scratches the artery walls and the body responds by laying-down a layer of cholesterol, to protec the arteries. The body is in effect, defeating it's self

I've seen this first hand. Scratch that, I've felt it.

A couple of years ago, I was told I needed to go on a low salt diet since it was all the ENT knew to do to prevent the pain, ess migraine symptom of vertigo I was suffering. (Then again it was reiterated when they discovered instead of a painless migraine symptom, it was actually part of a genetic inner ear issue that's cost me 16-18 decibels of my hearing in the last seven years.) A while later, Hubby was actually put on a high salt diet because his seizure meds at the time caused his kidneys to dump almost all the slat he was injesting, and thereby it was actually inducing overnight seizures.

I'd been feeling kind of foggy for a while, so after hearing his neurologist actually encourage him to up his salt, I decided to "risk it" and see if a dose of salt would help my brain fog. The difference was practically instantaneous. Within a couple of hours, I felt more awake and cognitively functional than I had in months. Hubby experienced the same.

Since, I haven't worried much about "overdoing" salt. I figure there's nothing conventional doctors know to do about my hearing, so I'll take my chances and learn sign language/lip reading just in case. I'd rather go without my hearing than my ability to think.

That said, I tend to think the bath salt thing is first off some drug runner's clever idea to try and get their drug past the authorities. Then the government decided to use their "war on drugs" to take pot shots at companies, and especially small, independent companies, who make and sell legit bath salts. Of course, that could be the result of being a bath and body handcrafter and getting asked how I could sell that stuff by folks to ignorant to tell the difference between flipping sea salt and chemicals. If you snort real bath salt, all you'll get is burning sinus cavities, one hell of a headache, and I'd imagine it'd take days to loose the smell of whatever essential or fragrance oils were used considering you would have literally coated the inside of your nose with it.

I actually have been studying up on natural medicins, thank you.

So far, I've yet to find an herb that can compensate for kindling seizures resulting from scar tissue formed thanks to massive brain trauma. Believe you me, he hates his meds, but the alternative at this point is near constant grand maul seizures. If it weren't for a drunken, redneck idiot shooting him in the head as a child, he wouldn't be on anything at all.

As for myself, I went off the pharma toxins as you call them almost immediately after the GP stuck me on them. I found my own triggers and simply started avoiding them instead. It's much more effective, and no confusion like with the crud they tried to shove down my throat. I'm not a pill popper. Hate them.

Okay...I'm a chemist and let's clear this up. Salt is NaCl and "rock salt" is simply NaCl with other few minerals mixed in. Either way, these are trace minerals...pulverized before ingestion and then dissolved by saliva and fluids you intake.

There is no such thing as salt "scratching" anything in your body because as you digest it, the molecule will dissolve and is microscopically small.

It's not like "salt clumps" of rock salt are actually ingested by you and then shot through the lining of your stomach into your veins. In order to even get through the lining of your intestines (where nutrients are actually absorbed...they are only broken down in the stomach), the nutrients are so microscopically small that they are not "clumps" anymore and not "sharp" and so cannot scratch any arteries. Chemicals can, however "clog" your arteries because larger molecules that are attracted to each other or the walls of your arteries can clump together (i.e., certain fats).

Seriously, nothing is going to scratch the the walls of your arteries. As for cholesterol build-up...I can't vouch for the fact your arteries can or cannot create it, but I'm sure the risk of it accumulating via your ingestion far outweighs this unusual "scratching" theory.

Of course, I could be totally wrong...in which case I'll be asking my university for a re-fund. :)

Oh, and ...linky??

oh I don't know now where I read that, probably here on GLP lol I did question (to myself), the part about the abrasiveness how is it that a soluble could cross to the blood and still be abrasive, but the cholestoral part answered that too.

Tell me (if you know) why is it that if you have high BP the Dr will tell you to cut back on salt. I suppose I should just google that cause idk

Borax is the "good" salt. Sodium borium converted to boron in your stomach.
Foods grown nowadays contain no boron compared to history because of the fertilizers. Anything grown with fertalizers in that matter is lacking boron, so we are very deficient in this now.
