Jesus came to die for that which was lost. We could not rescue ourselves by any humanly devised effort. We needed a man that had no sin - the perfect lamb of God, to not only cover our sins, as in the sacrificial rites of the Temple, but to actually remove them, to declare us worthy, because He loved us so. Not by our works, but because of His works we have eternity.

"For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins,
