My husband and I are dealing with infertility but we plan to opt out of vaccines at the hospital if we are ever able to have a baby. I have a narrow birth canal and am not able to give birth naturally (a c-section is required) so having a baby at home with mid-wife is not an option. I have already started doing some research on how to handle this situation without having CPS called on us. I have spoken with a few pediatrician offices in our area who support an alternate vaccine schedule. My husband and I are not anti-vaccine, we just want to do an alternate vaccine schedule. If we were anti-vaccine I am not sure how pediatricians would react to that but the offices I have spoken with do support an alternate vaccine schedule.
I plan to find a pediatrician that is on board with me and I'll tell the hospital that I will be taking my child to him/her for vaccines. I also want the pediatrician I pick to be willing to go to bat for me if the hospital calls him/her in regards to this.
I was told by all the offices I spoke with that I should come in during my 2nd trimester and interview the pediatrician and we can discuss an alternate vaccine schedule then and how to handle the hospital. I was also told by the office staff that lots of parents are now requesting alternate vaccine schedules so it's not outside the norm at all to do this.
