IRAN CLOSING HORMUZ STRAit soon? WW3, OIL to the roof or GLP EFFECT? I WANT YOUr opinion
Iranian lawmakers have drafted a bill that would close the Strait of Hormuz for oil tankers heading to countries supporting current economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

"There is a bill prepared in the National Security and Foreign Policy committee of Parliament that stresses the blocking of oil tanker traffic carrying oil to countries that have sanctioned Iran," Iranian MP Ibrahim Agha-Mohammadi told reporters.

"This bill has been developed as an answer to the European Union's oil sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran."

newcomers:

the strait at its narrowest is 21 nautical miles (39 km) wide.[1] It is the only sea passage to the open ocean for large areas of the petroleum-exporting Persian Gulf and is one of the world's most strategically important choke points. Approximately 20% of the world's oil, which is about 35% of seaborne traded oil, passes through the strait.[1]

Iran's oil minister, Rostam Qasemi, told Al Jazeera in November that if pushed, Iran would be willing to use oil as a political tool, although oil and security experts at the time said that this was an unlikely move as Iran relies on the strait more than any other country in the region.

"Iran has no other outlet for its oil, so it would be cutting off its nose to spite its own face," one expert told Al Jazeera.

A European Union ban on imports of Iranian oil started on Sunday.

The assumption would be the closing of their 12 nautical mile portion of territorial waters, not Oman's. If that is the
case, then fine let them do it. Oman is not closing theirs.

Re: IRAN CLOSING HORMUZ STRAit soon? WW3, OIL to the roof or GLP EFFECT? I WANT YOUr opinion
The Iranians will announce a pending limited closure of the strait in line with the opportunity for the Europeans and Americans to reverse their sanctions on the Islamic republic. This will be sometime in mid-September.

The Iranian President will deliver a speech at the UN chronologically outlining the events that led to the current crisis. This will fall on deaf ears in Washington and most of Europe (and Israel).

The Russians and Chinese will mediate but not budge. They, in concert with Iran, will blame the West for the escalation of tensions.

Between October 19-23 the strait will be closed following a diplomatic deadlock. Western warships will give a 24 hour ultimatum to the Iranians to re-open the strait. Russia will up the ante by sending warships into the Persian Gulf outside regular drills for the first time.

Vladimir Putin will warn that the only way out of the confrontation is for the West to drop the sanctions (which will bring Iran to re-open the strait). Reluctantly, the West will do this.

The same retreat in hostilities, however, will not be followed by Israel. They will see this as a PR triumph for Iran and may take unilateral action against Iran shortly afterwards (unless Russia decides to send the sophisticated anti-aircraft missiles it had previously denied to Iran).

It's a tricky situation with so many variables. There isn't enough room on this entire site to list them all.

possible, however when news leaks of the Iranian oil tanker sails across Al Qatif ( Persian Gulf ) headed for Basora Fretum ( Strait of Hormuz ) that its petroleum contents just happen to be under a contract with North Korea, I'm sure Il's successor will threaten to turn southern California into a black glass parking lot.

Iran isn't going to do shit except pop off a few of their fireworks. The US has called their bluff. They do not want to give the West a reason to invade their country.

No. Iran will wage a terrorist campaign against us now. And I expect different targets will be clandestinely hit. It won't amount to much.

They are biding their time as to get any nuclear progress they have made deep underground. And If I were them, I would do it quick because Israel may still attack them. If that happens, to save face with their population, the Iranian government would have no choice but to go to war with Israel or otherwise look weak and foolish. This will draw the West into the conflict.

Yes. Eventually Iran will be on the offense, but that may not be for a few more months yet. But rest assured that this will break out into a full fledged war before the end of this year. So you have a 6 month window.

IMO the US wants them to close it. When the cost of food and gas sky rockets and the US people start feeling the pinch they will fully support the war as the MSM will blame Iran for the insane prices due to them closing the strait.

it means that the only way Iran could sail such vessels would be if they somehow got Russia to underwright a "reinsurance" on certain ships, but even then it would be a matter for an international court to decide, but I do 'not' see how that is possible in-lieu of the following, which clearly prevents Iran from sailing anything out ( see below ):

“What we can look forward to in the coming weeks and months is that the Iranians will make a series of moves, beginning with this bill in the Majlis, threating to pass the bill; if that doesn’t have an effect, certainly going ahead with the passage,” Porter told RT. “Then first in a series of limited moves towards threatening to actually put mines in the strait to prevent the shipping of oil from going through. And then, I think, Iranians have the option of a very limited use of mines, with very few mines being dropped in this strait to try to get the price of oil to shoot up, for one thing, and to get the United States to react.”
