Iran won't dare because their truly weak military would be exposed as incapable of waging an effective war against a superpower. The US Navy would wipe the floor with them. The only benefits Iran could possibly expect from a conflict would be the opportunity to take a swipe at Israel with a few of their rockets along with martyrdom. Russia would benefit greatly because they could sell Iran lots of new military hardware after the US Navy kicks the crap out of Iran.

Iran has much to lose and little to gain. They would be foolish to pull the trigger on blocking the strait. The Iranians are anything but foolish so they will push this to the brink and then back off as per usual.

Face the consequences or change the way you (the US) deal with problems.
