To know means to know all. Not to know all means not to know. In order to know all, it is only necessary to know a little. But, in order to know this little, it is first necessary to know pretty much.

Because it was so deep is why we all felt it. You feel those further away. Was sure it was going to keep ramping up - the way it built.

Just FYI, I would trust readings from New Zealand's geologic agency (www.geonet.org.nz) rather than the overseas websites.
USGS and others tend to underestimate our NZ earthquakes.

Geonet are reporting it as a 7.

We even felt it quite strongly down here in Canterbury. I was thinking it was maybe a local 4.5 or 4.6.

I was told by Geonet the USGS use a different scale, 1 point lower than ours, in other words what Geonet reports as a 7 the USGS would report as a 6.
