I'm simply going by what her sources are claiming, and what I've seen and heard about scientology myself. It's a mind-controlling cult. I can't believe Katie had the courage to stand up to Tom, but I'm glad she did.

religions in general should not be forced on a child, and yet we do it everyday, since all religions is THE religion to the people that follow it
So the child must be brought up in the "light" of it.

Any child will learn from what the parents believe, and how they act.
I agree that sending off a child to a hardcore religious school is bad, but would it be any less bad if it was another religion than Scientology?

for the record. Im not defending Scientology, there should be room for all religions, but none of them should be forced on you, which is impossible in reality since children are influenced by what their parents believe, and will have a certain religion "forced" on them in one way or another.

Thanks friend. I definitely agree that the words "SOLE custody" really caused me to do a doubletake. Before I even read any articles, this was my first thought.

What most people don't understand is that most of the people in the Sea Org either grew up in Scientology, or have been in Scientology for many, many years. They are trapped in a situation where they really believe they are saving the planet. Many of them put up with these conditions because they have been told that this is the only way they can help mankind, and they honestly believe this is so. They may feel that they are enduring hard conditions, but management tells them that the earth is in peril, and that they endure this hardship for the good of humanity.

Since anyone expressing doubt or unhappiness is disciplined, no one is willing to outwardly show discontent. Though a person may be unhappy in the SO, he looks around and sees everyone else wearing dedicated faces and doing their jobs, and thinks that something must be wrong with him for wanting to leave.

Management also paints the world outside of Scientology like an evil place, awash in drugs, sex, and misery. They are told they cannot trust the "real world" law - only Scientology law is good and just, while the legal system outside is corrupt and untrustworthy. While Sea Org members may not be happy, they are constantly told that outside it is much worse. Anyone who leaves is painted as a criminal, a coward, and a traitor.

Since most of them are denied access to the outside world, they have no opportunity to interact with those who are leading healthy, productive lives outside; and moreover, they are encouraged to think that people on the outside aren't dedicated enough.

Combine all these factors with lack of sleep, lack of food, and lack of time to think, and you might understand why that many people would "willingly" shoulder that kind of abuse.

The great horror of marriage that has a child involved.
Even after divorce you are stuck with an insane person all over your child's mind and you can't do a thing about it.

Hopefully she will be able to get sole custody. In my opinion, a judge would have to be stupid not go give it to her.

As a Christian, I can tell you that there is a big difference in those complexes, and the real church. Some of those very well may be cults. That is because they are mixing Christian behavior with cult-like rules.

True Christianity is perfect love, and forgiveness. The Bible says we will know them by their fruit, referring to the fruits of the spirit such as love, patience, kindness, etc. When something or someone does not line up with scripture, then it is not really Christian. This hate and abuse as described in scientology is most definitely not what Jesus commanded at all.

Jesus Christ is without sin, the perfect and spotless one . He made the ultimate sacrifice for our sins by dying on the cross. He has perfect love for us. That is why we can worship Him,versus other religions. God would never convict you to do anything that would hurt yourself or someone else such as scientology or other religions would. He has a perfect plan for you, so that you may love Him, others, and yourself.

Look it up, but you will find that Christianity is the only religion that commands us to always love and forgive others. I do my best to do this as Christ has done for me.

OP, I've known some very Christ-like Christians but as a whole I've found Christians to be very judgmental and slow to love anything not that isn't like themselves. Buddhism on the other hand is all about compassion. I believe it's the Bible that said you should know a tree by it's fruit...and all you have to do is look and see which religions directly started wars or were used as justification for wars.

You are right. Many have gotten it all wrong. It was 'religous men' that had Christ crucified. Christ himself, who knew no sin, who was perfect in every way. And he was hated and brutally killed.

Today there is still a ton of hate among those that call themselves christians. You do have to know people by their 'fruit'.

We are called to be like Christ. Loving and forgiving. Nothing less will do.

And in addition, they are not getting an education. They are just working, working, working. There are laws against treating children this way, aren't there?
