Australian "Climate Change" Minister says that dirty power plant shutdown was not because of carbon tax
The Australian Minister for "Climate Change", Greg Combet, said that the shutdown of a dirty coal power was nothing to do with the "Carbon Tax". He said it is "absurd and ridiculous" to say that the shutdown was because of the "Carbon Tax".

Maybe I have misunderstood this whole "Global Warming" and "Carbon Tax" thingy. Didn't they impose a "Carbon Tax" with the intention of getting dirty coal power plants to close down? Shouldn't the Minister be saying that the "Carbon Tax" DID close down the power station so that he could claim that the Carbon Tax is working as intended?

No that's "absurd and ridiculous" to say that! In fact, the Carbon Tax is just a tax. No dirty coal power plants will close down because of it. The real goal of the Carbon Tax is apparently revealed.

The Carbon Tax is to COLLECT TAX ON EVERYTHING. No dirty coal power plants will close down! Electricity will just cost more, that's all!!! Oh boy, this sure is getting confusing.

"THE carbon price was the ''final straw'' that forced the closure of the heavily polluting Munmorah coal-fired power plant on the central coast, but the main cause was a drop in electricity demand, Delta Electricity said.

The Climate Change Minister, Greg Combet, accused Delta of playing politics on behalf of the NSW government by linking the closure to the carbon price.

''It is absurd and ridiculous to attribute the decision to decommission Munmorah as having anything to do with carbon pricing,'' he said. ''One can only conclude that Delta, which is owned by the NSW government, is trying to add to the Liberal Party scare campaign.''"

So remember: If a coal power plant shuts down, it is "absurd and ridiculous" to say that the Carbon Tax had anything to do with it. No coal power plants will shut down due to the Carbon Tax!!!

Re: Australian "Climate Change" Minister says that dirty power plant shutdown was not because of carbon tax
If the Carbon Tax is going to work, it should result in the closure of dirty power plants. Eventually the government is going to have to claim that a power plant closure is the result of the carbon tax. They can't keep saying that it is ridiculous to attribute power plant closures to the carbon tax.

But if they say that a power plant closed because of the carbon tax, the opposition will hammer them. Great work, Ms Gillard, you've got yourself and your mates stuck in another trap!

How long will the government keep claiming that their carbon tax will have no effect? If the carbon tax has no effect, WHAT IS THE POINT???

How much of a ruckus will there be on the first occasion that the government claims that the carbon tax actually DID have some effect/???

but those dirty power plants produce vital co2 for plant to use!

now we have upset the balance, were going to do it again, by making another mass change.

So after how many days will it be sensible to say that a dirty power plant was shut down because of the carbon tax? It's not as ridiculous as the Minister seems to think.

If the owners of the plant take into account that they will have to pay lots of money in carbon tax if they keep the plant running, then doesn't it make sense to close it down soon after the introduction of the carbon tax? Even if the tax has only been there for a couple of days?

Isn't the idea of a carbon tax to shut down dirty power plants? Why are they saying it's ridiculous? How long will the government keep saying the carbon tax will have no effect?

Re: Australian "Climate Change" Minister says that dirty power plant shutdown was not because of carbon tax
According to the news report, the power plant can produce 4.2 million tonnes per year of carbon dioxide. The carbon tax is $23 per tonne.

So if they run that power plant, they have to pay carbon tax of $96.6 million per year. Isn't it possible that adding on almost $100 million per year of taxes is enough to make the plant run at a loss? If the plant will never make a profit again due to the carbon tax, then doesn't it make sense to shut it down?

The number of days since the carbon tax was imposed is pretty much irrelevant. The operators of the plant can get their accountants to figure out whether the plant can ever again be profitable if they have to pay carbon tax. They've done that, the plant will now cost them money for as long as they keep running it.

If they want to make electricity at that power plant, they will have to pay the federal government for the privilege of doing that. Why should they bother doing it if they are just going to make losses forever?

It is absurd and ridiculous for Greg Combet to say that the carbon tax had nothing to do with this power plant closing down.

I can't understand why they say the carbon tax had nothing to do with the power plant closing down. Is the carbon tax really supposed to get rid of dirty power plants? Eventually, they are going to have to claim that the carbon tax closed down a power plant.

One day a dirty power plant will close down, and there will be Gillard, Combet, and Garrett dancing around outside saying the carbon tax worked and closed it down.

They can't keep saying "We are imposing a carbon tax to reduce emissions", and then when a power plant closes, "That was nothing to do with the carbon tax!". It doesn't make sense!

No, because there is no dirty coal power plants, they stopped that long ago.
All effluent is filtered they do not burn coal and vent it to the atmosphere.

Carbon Dioxide is not dirty so no it doesn't mean that.
What they try to fool people with by using the word coal, is the dirty smelly burning coal.
They mean this, but they have not burned coal like this for a long time.
So they use this "idea" if you will of yucky coal, when they refer to C02.
But if coal power plants are dirty because they emitted C02, then every single breathing human being would be considered filthy.

If Labor/Greens stay in, they are going to convert the Carbon Tax into an ETS. And when that happens, aren't they going to cut off all the "household assistance packages" they keep blabbing on about?

carbon tax + vat at 35% and mandatory insurance are the tools the nwo developed to get close to the 80% taxation in order to disarm the middle class.

after that with 20% of your income to spend for basic thing people will need to go trough social services to survive...and from that all dissent will be obliterated

Re: Australian "Climate Change" Minister says that dirty power plant shutdown was not because of carbon tax
Some simple things to remember.

1. Carbon tax is not on diesel at the moment but when it does all transport costs will rise.

2. It won't matter who is in gov, the price will stay until OZ is bankrupt.

3. It will not lower our carbon output at all, and as the gov model is only based on human output not overall, the figures are high exaggerated.

4. The longer labor are in power the more debt we will amass... And now they give themselves pay rises...

All in all, the elite wanted a tax that coverd everything, they now have it and it is time for the plebs to wake up and crush them....
