Quoting: Sandrose They have a good article on the same subject on clusterstock.com this morning. There are photographs as well. Supposedly they are like the 'ghost cities' in China - basically concrete boxes inside with no flooring or fixtures, etc. Makes you wonder who they were really built for... |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1513486 United States 07/04/2012 08:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.dailymail.co.uk] Quoting: SheldonCooper It was supposed to be a state-of-the-art city for 500,000 - but eerie footage shows how a Chinese-built urbanisation is at risk of becoming Africa's first 'ghost town'. Constructed on the outskirts of Angola's capital city Luanda, Nova Cidade de Kilamba has 750 eight-storey blocks of flats, a dozen schools and more than 100 shop units. But, crucially, it has no residents, and many of the nearby slum-dwellers cannot afford the £75,000 price-tag to move in. This has sparked fears the £2.2billion project, a fraction of the cash China has poured into Africa in recent years, could lay abandoned for years to come. It has also highlighted the increasing 'colonisation' of Africa by China, seen to be wanting the resource-rich continent as a 'satellite state', in recent years. history repeats |

China already has problems with social unrest, poverty and disparity. Don't fool your selves we have done the same thing here. That is why we have over built and most people work for the government or are on assistance. It is all an attempt to kept the stability of social society. The question is why? I think TPTB know something we don't and I think the Mayan Calender and Time WAVE Zero explain it well enough for all who are willing to see. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19057281 I'd be less worried about what's going on in a perennially war-torn crap-hole like Angola and more about what's going on in our own back yards... Chi nese companies moving into Michigan. 'Free trade' and low tax Economic zones being set up all around the former American industrial heartland. There have been other threads here that basically the chine se would set up factory towns in the US - factory + housing their own workers - and it would essentially be tax free and free trade with the rest of the US. Hedge funds buying up farmland... High speed rail lines quietly being built... Why so quiet? |

Hey, the same thing is happening here in the U.S. Doesn't matter what city, they are all full of homes just sitting there vacant. Every week, the Mexicans show up to mow the lawns. But no one's ever home. No one rents these homes because no one can afford the rent, and there sure aren't any buyers. The clock is ticking. |

I haven't seen the city but that's some pretty good numbers. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 506563 Even the highrise construction is modular, prefab. Once the foundation is built, a 15 storey apartment building gets hoisted up by crane and ironworkers in one week. In the second week all the piping and electrical connections are done The building is erected and finished in two weeks. There are some cool vids on youtube of this. Deplorable in a tin foil hat |

The Chinese do not use African labour where possible, saying black Africans are lazy and unskilled. In Angola, the government has agreed that 70 per cent of tendered public works must go to Chinese firms, most of which do not employ Angolans. As well as enticing hundreds of thousands to settle in Africa, they have even shipped Chinese prisoners to produce the goods cheaply. Where will it all end? As far as Beijing is concerned, it will stop only when Africa no longer has any minerals or oil to be extracted from the continent. Read more: [link to www.dailymail.co.uk] |
