ok!

we understand, no one is arguing that its not on the platform so stop.

we now know its in the tunnel just next to the end of the platform.

and we still quite aware that no one switched it off.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19132951

My point is proven, none of you sheeple knew where this "switch" was until this thread, I didn't know where it was and I grew up riding the MTA in Boston and Manhattan.
 Quoting: 1nf1del

I knew about it, the German guy knew about it, Hell everyone but you and one other person assumed there would be a power shutoff near the end of the platform.

Why do we think people should have acted, despite the fact some of you aren't aware of your safety features? Well let me explain... imagine some granny drives her Bandit off the subway platform, or gets pushed, whatever. Old lady with broken hip and a motorized cart are now on the tracks, and pose a significant safety hazard to themselves and any oncoming train.

Do you...

A.) Look for something to cut power to the tracks, or an intercom, or an employee.

or...

B.) Stand around scratching your nuts.

If you answered B, you are officially a Useless Fuck.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1044523

B. I don't have nuts to scratch, but I would have been a useless fuck because:

These switches are located in areas that are NOT accessible to subway customers. They are not on the station platform, and they're not accessible to the token booth clerk either.

and more importantly that at the same time as someone looking for a switch, the strongest people in the bunch didnt grab his arms and pull him up.

no one did anything apart form one woman patheticly looked after his shirt during the electrocution and another filmed it.

She only held out the shirt and mentioned it to bribe him. She tried her best. She could not have handled him to pull him out.

OOPS....I just read the LAST sentence!
UPDATE: MTA spokesperson Charles Seaton writes, "These switches are located in areas that are NOT accessible to subway customers. They are not on the station platform." And they're not accessible to the token booth clerk, either. Seaton declined to elaborate on their exact location, for obvious reasons.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8530253

If the switch wasn't accessible to the public or the clerk, then HOW THE HELL did he run over and throw it? Dumbass.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1044523

HUH? What are you talking about? I do not see, in the article, where someone ran over and threw the switch.

All that being said, there is a button on the end of each platform that can be pressed to cut power to the 3rd rail.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19114053

Is there really a cutoff button on the platform? I did not know that.

I was electrocuted by a roller coaster when I was a kid

I was completely stuck to the handrails so I guess I made a complete circuit

Could feel the juice running thru me - I became one with it

some huge 250lb carnival guy had to run at me from about 30 feet away and tackle me - I guess to dislodge me from the rails

knocked the wind out of me needless to say

I thought I was in trouble cuz he looked mad when he was charging at me

lol

Listen, sheeple, stop spinning what I said, I simply stated there is no switch or button ON THE PLATFORM for the sheeple in the video to shut off rail service to upper NYC! There is obviously some way to shut the power off, I'm not a fucking moran!

Oh no, someone jump onto the live tracks and save him!!!

NOT.

This moron was obviously asking for it. It is unfortunate that he died the way he did. But he should not have been in there. The reality though, someone should have grabbed him by the throat and yanked him up before he had any chance to harm himself.

THIS is what a power shutoff switch looks like. These are the ones in Toronto, located just on the inside wall of the subway tunnel, within arm's reach of the public platform edge.

Also note, these are APART from the brightly lit ones for normal public use.

These are the kind all subway stations have, at the end of their platforms, because it's a goddamn safety feature and the track crews might need them.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1044523

Everyone is yammering for a solution. "Do this do that they could have done this or that." STFU

Turning off the switch would not have saved him even if you did it in time. Those lines run on Direct Current and shutting them off would not discharge them. You can shut them off and then walk up and thouch them an hour later AND YOU ARE DEAD.

Now, for people saying they should have lifted him up etc... you are all full of shit bleeding heat liberals. If you feel so self important to save "disadvantaged" people's lives, then get your lazy asses over to a shelter or treatment center and start grabbing people and lifting them up there.

So many bullshit artists on this site have millions of solutions but are sitting in a chair typing about their heroism and stoicism.

Re: Drunken Man Electrocuted to Death on NYC Subway (Video is Graphic) Dont watch if you dont want to see it!
Its funny all the comments people are making but what if this was your son? or a close family member? I always find it funny how people can watch a video of someone losing their life and make stupid comments like "the train was late" or "no sparks" or say "nothing disturbing in this video" I mean what a bunch of retards.

Come on...most of us are still a caring and compassionate bunch. We just know the dangers of jumping onto a track on a subway in NYC to help a dead weight drunk guy. Apparently you don't.

I give these people credit that they tried to talk him out. They were helpless. How sad that you and others sit here in front of a computer and judge them.

I believe the same thing...

they tried to ask him out of there in the beginning...

Why should they have tried to rescue him? more dead possibly

for what ?
