All these enraged replies for the bystanders to "push the cut-off button".
Clearly they didn't know there's a cut-off switch or they would have hit it. I didn't know there was one until reading this thread.
Don't get pissed at folks who obviously wanted to help but didn't know what to do.
I'm glad to know now that such a switch exists and will be looking for it whenever I'm at the subway in case of emergency.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17119454 I've never seen the switch either. You would think it would have huge arrows and multiple languages around it or something to draw attention. Quoting: Candy Corn It doesn't. But each platform has one. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19127552 They were probably put in back when transit systems could actually afford staff to know where the thing was and push it. Quoting: Candy Corn It's there, but no staff are on the platforms. The thing about the 3rd rail is, it is not constantly flowing with juice. It runs in sections; each section is not constantly on. This guy just hit it at the moment it certainly was on. And don't try the "piece of wood" trick, as another poster advised, unless you want your ass knocked back about 20 feet. Wood isn't a great conductor of electricity, but with enough amps, the juice IS going somewhere. Once this guy guy touched that rail, forget it, Let the pro's handle it from there.
