Each and every subway station has at least one power cutoff button.

Here in Toronto, we have them at either end of the platforms, DWAs (fixed camera'd areas with direct cc and intercom to station management) every 40 feet or so. You slam the intercom button and yell "cut power, man on tracks" and they're trained to do so.

Yes, the subway system is hooked to the grid, but EACH INDIVIDUAL TRACK SECTION can be controlled. What, you don;t think these systems are computerized? They just draw juice and go? NoooOoOooo.

Also, OF COURSE they let just anyone hit the emergency shutoff buttons. They have them in the subway cars too, every 10 goddamn feet, and they're bright yellow. If you hit an emergency stop for ANYTHING but an emergency, they fine you and jail you. That's why every other jackass doesn't do it, because every other jackass would be in jail by now.

Each car has an emergency brake; if pulled, the entire train goes BIE (Brakes In Emergency), same as if the train passed a steady red signal.

WOW, you must really have your head up your ass if you don't know your own subway's safety features.

You have safety intercoms with direct link to a clerk, and train shutoff toggles on all of the subway cars. Each and every employee in a booth can cut the station track power, and I know this because there was a clerk who recently cut track power to keep a man from killing himself.

MTA is also the sole authority over power cutoffs on the subway system.

I'm still trying to figure out if you have platform power cutoffs, because I can't find any info either way. Until I do, I maintain some jackass just has to run to the nearest intercom, slam the button, and state the emergency.
