Not everyone knows there is a panic button to cut the power. People was trying to help, they just didnt know how. New Yorkers are not as insensitive as outsiders think. Facts: It was a rainy day: the man and the tracks were wet, once the man was hit by high voltage he was dead, even when the electricity running through his body made his dead body convulse. If someone touched him in that minute, would had also become dead meat. I seen many emergencies in New York city and New Yorkers had proven themselves more brave and helpful than any one of these haters.

Its funny all the comments people are making but what if this was your son? or a close family member? I always find it funny how people can watch a video of someone losing their life and make stupid comments like "the train was late" or "no sparks" or say "nothing disturbing in this video" I mean what a bunch of retards.

He's (the guy on the tracks)the type of psycho who would throw someone else on the tracks. They are all over the transit system in NY.

The biggest idiot is the woman trying to give her hand to him. He might have pulled her down there with him.

All that being said, there is a button on the end of each platform that can be pressed to cut power to the 3rd rail.

Hit it, and wait for the police, who are then going to wait for Emergeny Service to get him off the tracks.

all those who were on the platform are guilty of murder.

that power cut off button should have been pressed as soon as the drunk/drugged guy was on the track, when they were trying to convince him to get back on the platform.

that is when they should have pressed the button.

and because they did nothing they are all guilty of murder.

ignorance and ignorance of the law is no defence

There is NO emergency electrical shut-off switch accessible to passengers of the NYC Subway system. It is only accessible to employees and it is located INSIDE THE TUNNEL.

How do I know? 19 1/2 years presently employed by NYC Transit as a Conductor. So it is my job to know where the power off switch is.

Thank you.

When the Transit Police merged with City back in 1995, City cops needed to be trained for a day on how to deal with emergencies in the subways. The big thing was on how to shut down power in an emergency (besides learning to walk on tracks with live power and how to walk on tracks with trains riding by you)and the big thing was about the switch at the end of the platform with the blue light and what to do and how to have another competent person run to booth to tell clerk about shutting down power.
So yes, you can shut down power on platform if you know what to do and I have done it once to remove a person from the tracks.
