Re: New Law... Barking Dogs Not Allowed
This is a GREAT LAW!

I keep my cats inside.

So, why can't dog owners keep their barking dogs, inside?

Dog owners are the worst...thinking that their barking dogs are lovely. Yet, most of the dogs are left outside during the day/night, etc. (dog abuse)...So, I figure some of the dogs are probably barking for someone to rescue them from their pathetic owners!

On the other hand, people who love their dogs, keep them inside.

I totally support dog barking laws, because I've suffered from obnoxious barking dogs in my neighborhood, for years.

The problem is not with the dogs but with their owners who don't know how to properly take care of them.

If you want a dog it shouldnt be tied outside anyway. you get these people that have a dog on a 2 foot chain on the other side of there house that barks all night long and keeps other people awake, I say its a good law. Why have a dog if its out side?

Re: New Law... Barking Dogs Not Allowed
A dog barking is no big deal, but a dog constantly barking non-stop will drive you nuts. You try to relax and read a book and you hear barking and it does not stop for a long time. After the dog finally stops barking, you think, ah great peace and quiet and then 20 minutes later the dog starts barking again.

When you try to go to sleep the same dog is still barking, what the hell is this damn dog barking at? Why do the owners of the dog allow the dog to bark non-stop. Why do these people not control their dog better, why do they show such disrespect towards their neighbors?

I called the sheriff and to my dismay, they would do nothing about it.

Day after day of non-stop barking, I had finally had enough. I went over to the neighbor who had the non-stop barking dog. I really wanted to punch that guy in the face after hardly any sleep for days on end due to his dog, I calmed myself and told him the way I felt. I said you have to do something about your dog, you have to understand that nobody wants to hear that all day and night long. I said don't you have any respect for your neighbors? My neighbor didn't care one bit and dismissed me.

That is when I felt the anger rise in me, it was like a tidal-wave. Total rage and anger, I saw red at that point.

The neighbor got rid of his dog the next day.

I've got a next door neighbor whose dog begins to bark the second it is put outside to pee or for whatever reason the owner put's it outside. Dog does not stop until it is let back inside. Sometimes it barks non-stop for 90 minutes. Talks with that neighbor does not work, letters to homeowners assn and to city animal resources does not work. Running out of options here.
Have you ever stayed at a motel or hotel and the people staying next to you brought their dog, but leave it in the room to howl and bark non-stop until they return? Especially when staying at an all hours city like Vegas? Hotel mgmt won't do shit!

It all started with the dog across the street. His name was Lucky. Lucky was chained to a dog house and bark, bark, barked while the owner was working.

Our other neighbor would get sick of it, and yell out the window... SHADD-UPPP!!! And Lucky would go lay down. We felt sorry for Lucky, and figured he needed water or food.

After continuous complaints, they told the owner, Lucky's got to go. So the owner took him over to the ex-wife on the other side of town, but he did the same thing.

After the owner moved out of the house a lady with 3 huge dogs moved in, and she kept them in the house, but they would bark, bark, bark, all the time.

Then the neighbor 2 doors down got a big yellow dog from somewhere, I called him "Brutal" because his bark was brutal. Our next door neighbor had enough and got tired of yelling shutup! So, eventually, I noticed Brutal was gone.

Then a guy that was cleaning trash on the back 40 told me about the new law.

Yep, you heard it right. If your dog barks in this town, especially at night, and someone complains, you will get a visit from the sheriff. First comes a warning to keep him inside, then they come and take him away.

Our neighbor bought a muzzle for their dog, poor thing.

Sad times.

I can't say I blame the night barking, ladies next to me have a dog that will bark for HOURS non-stop at night. Luckily though he is only outside at night a few times a week. I am glad he is about out of the door as nothing says "kill" like getting woken up at 3am by him :P

That's why I had wolf hybrids for my last 2 dogs...they rarely if ever bark...and woe-be-unto-you if you're a stranger who winds up in my back yard unknown to the dog.
 Quoting: Rael

Wolf hybrids best dogs ever. Mine (150 lb. half G.S./half wolf) was same way - rarely barked, would just watch & silently attack. I didn't think of all hybrids being like that but makes sense considering the wild wolves. Interesting.

Most communities don't allow you to sit outside on your porch at night yelling every 5 seconds either and piercing the quiet. Just because it's a stupid dog doesn't mean it should be exempt.

As a neighbor with 2 barking dogs next door, I wish that law came to this town. People need to be held accountable for disturbing the peace. That includes their property. Laws are laws. Don't be one of those people that value pets more than humans or being a good neighbor. Because that would make you stupid. Literally.

We have something like a 10 or 11 pm noise ordinance and it includes barking dogs. No loud noises after that hour. But I don't know about in the day time. There is a leash law also and dogs aren't supposed to just run lose.

Fortunately mine only weighs a few pounds and want to stay inside or wherever I am all the time.

Re: New Law... Barking Dogs Not Allowed
I'm going to guess it happened like this:

A bunch of people left their dogs out at night because "that's where dogs belong." The dogs did what dogs do, and barked a lot, making all of the neighbors stay up all night and affecting their ability to work in the morning.

Then the neighbors came over and complained, but they were quickly told to buy earplugs and get off the property unless they wanted a beat down.

The dogs kept barking and more neighbors got pissed off. The owners of the dogs didn't care because the owners fell asleep just fine each night with the TV on after a 5th of Jim Beam.

So the neighbors had enough, and a law was passed.

Or something like that. But, that's usually how laws like this get passed.

No, small town in So. Dakota.

So, this guy was on the back 40 swinging a huge sledge hammer, and I walked back there to see what he was doing. He turned out to be a senior, and was hired to break up an antique four legged bathtub back there and haul it out. He said years ago it was used as a watering trough. (I made a joke, and said... "You just broke my swimming pool!")

He said.."Horses used to be back here!" Then he said something about the city not allowing dogs barking anymore. He asked me if I was the one that complained about Brutal. I told him no, but I knew who did.

Then he started on a rant about how different it is now than 40 years ago. That they keep passing laws, that we can't do anything anymore, and went on and on and on.

He said keeping a dog from barking is stupid, because that's what dogs do.

We have had that law for years, anytime someone lets their dogs bark for longer than 15 minutes they can be fined, day OR night!
I love dogs but there is no reason the world needs to be so noisy just because of a lazy neighbor or some other asshat.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9231012

My neighbor's dog stands in MY yard barking at me through the window.

If any of the people on this street go outside, the thing runs into their yard and stands and barks. It even goes on one guy's carport to bark at him.
Of course, the neighbor eventually comes to get it and apologizes, but I'd much rather they keep the thing in the house or on a leash.

No one else on this street has a dog.
The ones with the dog are the newest. They had no pets when they moved in.
I really think they should've looked around and considered that maybe there were no dogs for a reason.

I like dogs and owned a couple in the past, but I never would've allowed them to do this.

I'm sick of it.
I was going to spray it with the hose the other day, but as soon as I pointed it at it, it ran off----too bad it didn't keep going.

How in the fuck are you people hearing a neighbor's dog barking? Are you all losers who live in trailer parks with 15' wide yards or are you losers who live in apartments/condos?

Either way, my nextdoor neighbors are 30' to either side of me and I'd be hard pressed to hear a gun go off in their house unless I was outside their house with my ear to their walls.

I mean seriously people, how in the hell do you hear a dark bark in another house?

Looks like my neighbors got a warning. They have a dog named Spots, and he was barking at a bicyclist riding by. The sheriff came by, and Spots barked at the sheriff, and the sheriff called Spots "vicious."

"He's a vicious dog," he said.

Vicious means "Wild and dangerous to people."

Spots is not wild and dangerous to people. He's a cocker spaniel.

We are all sovereign beings, and those we hire are done so in an office/contract of TRUST, like the mechanic, who is hired to fix, not wreck, our car.

Any employee who thinks their job is to enslave their boss, or curtail their sovereign rights is criminal, their legislation is not legal, and they have broken TRUST.

This is not about a dog barking. It's about a dog barking nonstop. All hours of the night. Or, otherwise being intrusive to the OTHER PEOPLE in the neighborhood.

Also, how come dogs can bark forever and never get horse? You'd think after a while they'd need to rest their barking chords.
