Lance Armstrong - our cancer fighting survivor hero - I just can't stand it if he's guilty.

:Not Happy:
 Quoting: Truly

I don't think he is. He has been tested 10x more than any other athlete in history and has never failed or anything. Some people just hate excellence and perfection.

He will get out of this unscathed!
 Quoting: Patrick Bateman

Of course he was using dope. The reason why they are not caught right away is because they use cutting edge dope which isn't on the list of tested substances yet.

The Tour de Dope is a dopefest.
 Quoting: Psych

I disagree. Maybe blood doping, but no sort of steroids or other cholesterol carrying hormones or anything like that.
 Quoting: Patrick Bateman

I don't know what he used. I don't care either. It surely was a performance enhancer.

In effect, when applauding the winner of the Tour de Dope, you are actually saying: "Good job dude, you are the best cheater. We were not able to find anything."

It's like applauding for David Copperfield, you know it's a trick but it still looks magnificent.

Maybe I am too naive, but I still beleive in innocence until proven guilty.

That being said, I only disagree with performance enhancing drugs in sports because not everyone does them. They make the athletes better and more fun to watch imo. I would not do them, but if someone else wants to do something to their body for our entertainment, more power to them.

Wow, this is disgusting. Bryant is a tremendous athlete and should have a great year, but this???

Perhaps this is not all that it seems. Who knows what she did or what she was on before he "grabbed" her. If you watch the video, you see she has been arrested for crack and also for supplying false evidence to police. So maybe this is not all that it seems.

Oh, he was in a "heated argument" with his brother and his mom tried to intervene. It resulted in him grabbing her.

Re: GLP sports thread.. Whatever topic in sports you want to discuss.
So does anyone have any personal under dog picks for the SB or at least deep playoff run this year?

Here is mine, and why. I would love to hear some critiques and other people's opinions as well.

Alright my fellow sports fans, it is time for another little discussion/debate.
This one will probably not be as interesting to most of the regular partakers due to the team I will be discussing, but I would appreciate your thoughts, input, and then your own sleeper for SB contender and why you chose the team you did.

I know I am biased due to them being my favorite team, but I am generally pretty objective when making expectations for my favorite teams, (I sometimes always say the Lakers will win, but this is often joking, but not this year, for the record, I really do think they are the team to beat, but I'll save that for a future discussion). I genuinely do believe that the Falcons are one of the biggest and most under-rated SB contenders this year. Somehow ranked 12th in the current power rankings, I conclude that they have a legitimate shot at making a deep playoff run. And just to be clear, I do not think this every year, and have not thought they have had a shot since the summer Vick was arrested. Anyways, time for the facts, and evidence to support my claims.

Some off season changes.
New OC Dirk Koetter. He is completely revamping the play calling system and changing it from a conservative, combo of run first/pass first, to a much more aggressive scheme in order to maximize the immense amount of athleticism and talent on this offense. He is also allowing Ryan to do a lot more no huddle and call plays from the line.

Ryan also bulked up quite a bit in order to be more durable and to fully take advantage of the deep ball threat that this high powered offense is capable of. This will be his fifth season in the league, and I think it may be the best or one of, that he will have in his career.

The receivers, Roddy White, one of the best in the league, accompanied by Julio Jones, who may breakout and prove to be one of the best along side him. Add aging, but still amazing Tony G across the middle, and we have arguably the best receiving corps in the league. They also added some depth at wo. Not to mention the offense will now include much more passing out of the backfield to not only Turner, but also the added depth at the rb position.

Running the ball. Turner is not what he was 3 years ago, and has been under achieving for a couple of years, but he has still done well, and he will still be very successful at running up the gut, especially with teams being forced to play the pass. With some added depth and new play schemes, look for the rb's to be quite successful in this offense, not only running, but with screens as well.

We did lose a few players on offense, fb Mughelli, who will be replaced by a draft pick. And we lost an OL due to an injury last week. But we also added some OL and depth to the line all around. It will be a much better line than last year, both for pass blocking and run blocking.

The defense.
New Defensive Coordinator, Mike Nolan, who can hopefully change the dirty birds into an elite and feared defense. Something the team has been lacking for many many years. He plans on setting up defenses that add lots of pressure rather than play it safe and try not to get beat. I consider him a good fit for what the Falcons need with a more talented defense than they usually have and a very capable mind running it.

After resigning Ship's own Brent "Jeezely" (sp) Grimes, who ranked 2nd at the cb position behind Revis last year, and also adding Asante Samuel, the Falcons are currently ranked 5th at the cb position. They also have some depth now as well. They lost a couple of backers but also added former pro-bowler Lofa Tatupu. We lost SS James Sanders, but also gained Chris Hope to back up Moore. We also drafted another DE to hep out aging but still productive Abraham.

Other reasons for their upcoming success.
The Saints will not be as dominate this year, and the Panthers are not there yet. I do not feel the Bucs even need to be mentioned. With a somewhat tough schedule including Denver, San Diego, Philly, Dallas, Saints (twice), Giants, etc. They need to capitalize on the Panthers, Bucs, Raiders, and Chiefs. They should get to 11-5 which will win their division, and with a greatly improved defense and much more aggressive/successful offense, I believe that they can beat anyone in the playoffs (especially those pesky Giants who seem to have their number in the postseason lately). But I think they will have the hardest time with the Packers and Eags, I think they will match up well vs the 49ers, who will not be as successful last year as this year, as well as the Giants, Chicago, Detroit, and the Saints.

I know and apologize for how long-winded this post was, but would love to hear people's thoughts on my assessment, as well as your own picks for underdog with SB talent. I also would like to apologize ahead of time for the grammar errors, I did not proof read this once, and while I may be unable to sleep despite having class in a few hours, I still do not feel like putting any more effort into this. So, let's hear it!

Re: GLP sports thread.. Whatever topic in sports you want to discuss.
What are all the NFL fans thoughts on the replacement refs?

I know that people have been criticizing them quite a bit the first couple of weeks, but if you actually look at the stats, they have made more correct calls through two games than any other refs since 2008. (Source, Collin Cowherd)

Yes, they have blown some calls and made some bad spots, but that always happens.

The facts are these were the best refs in four years through the first two weeks. They have been taking a lot of to's to make sure they get the correct call, which fucks with teams momentum, but they are getting the calls right. They have also been doing a horrendous job at keeping the players under control, and need to fix that. Way too many fights and no flags being thrown.

I have a feeling those stats may change after week 3. There have been some terrible calls, especially tonight.

That was most definitely a pick, not a TD. And according to the MNF crew, it was not a reviewable play due to both players having partial possession when they came down in the end-zone, so the call made at the time is the call that stands, it cannot be overturned. But if you analyze the video and picks, Jennings most definitely had sole possession of the ball when he came down, then Tate got his hands back on the ball, but the play was already dead due to Jennings being down. If it would have been shared possession the entire time, the tie goes to the receiver, but upon more review, this was definitely not the case. It's a shame it couldn't be reviewed.

But then again, I hate the Packers so, lmao. I still do not like seeing teams win due to bad calls.

Thoughts anyone?

Bump this also! No one commented on my prediction of the Falcons being a great team finally, and they are 3 and 0, with 2 impressive wins. And we are without our best corner (a pro-bowler, and ranked 2nd in cb rating behind Reevis last year) due to a torn achilles week one. He will be out for the year. But our backups are doing quite well and playing very aggressive, so hopefully the injury won't hurt us too bad.

But since no one but me made a prediction before season, lol, any one want to take a try after 3 weeks?

Any opinions on the latest from Lance Armstrong? I personally believe it is all bullshit. I may be naive, but I am one of those innocent until proven guilty types, and they do not have enough evidence to prove him guilty. Just some here say from admitted users who get to stay in cycling bby ratting him out.

He is our number 2 corner too. Unfortunately, Brent Grimes, whom I used to play basketball with all the time in college, is our number 1 corner, but he tore his Achilles week 1.

We have a few key injuries that have haunted us all season, but still are doing quite well. Yes our D gives up yards, but we give up like the 4th fewest points, so I will take it.

Let's see those Adderall fiend corners of Seattle guard Roddy and Julio.
