Plus it was a major gas guzzler. They tried though |

Went to the Mopar Nats in Columbus Ohio a few years ago. Every Viper that dared get on that track got smoked by the Hemi Darts, MaxWedge Belvederes, and the Hemi Chargers. They even kept all of em under special tents. Kind of funny. There was over 5000 muscle Mopars there. BTW. All the Cudas got spanked also. |

guynur User ID: 19018506 United States 07/05/2012 09:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I always liked the 427 Cobra AC. Zero to 100mph and back to a dead stop in 12.5 seconds. $10k when they first came out. Performance (typical figures for 427) Top Speed 165 mph (265 kph) 0-60 mph (0-96.5 kph) 4.2 seconds 0-100 mph (0-161 kph) 10.3 seconds Standing 1/4-mile 12.4 seconds Fuel Consumption 10.0 mpg At one time they were selling for over $250k. I remember back in 1966, was in the USAF stationed in California, an older gentleman than I was pulling a 427 Cobra Ac on a trailer with a 289 Cobra AC. Nice combo. At one time I bought new a 1974/75 (can't remember which) Chev Cheyenne Super half ton pickup for $4900. 454. Added headers and a high rise Tarantula intake manifold. On wet pavement it was like driving on ice. A friend bought a Camaro with Cowel Induction back then and I remember him saying that the 4 wheel disc break option was $500. Also remember he was racing another car doing 70 (in a 45 mph speed zone)in 2nd gear and I kept saying to myself I want out. Another friend (we were all living together in a big house) had a 429 Cobra Jet. He had to take it to the dealer to change the spark plugs. The dealer had to jack up the motor to change the back 2 plugs. Another guy we lived with had a Pontiac Bonneville, 4spd and 3-duce carb. And another house mate had a Triumph TR6. That was fun to drive. Those were the fun days when gas was cheap. |
