Kill Wasps with Dish Soap and Water
Has anyone tried this?

I have read about people mixing 3T of dish soap in a quart of water then spraying on a wasps nest...

The video shows how quickly they die! The film left on them keeps them from breathing.

in the comments, a guy in the pest control business uses lemon scented dish soap and a couple of people use pinesol

Now wasps do have a function in nature - they eat bad bugs. So if they are not close to the front door, or where the kids play, I say, just leave them alone.

But if they are too close for comfort - I'd try this...

Wish I had seen that three days ago. I found a yellowjacket nest on my fence, and drove to CVS for wasp spray. Could have saved $5.

Thanks, OP.

Must be a different type of wasp. I have the mud type and I've never had any problems with them. They eat other bugs so I let them live.

We have the paper wasps in our yard. Same here, they are pretty mellow, they don't bother us so we let them live as well.

It works. The soap suffocates them.

We have a whole smorgasbord of different kinds of wasps flying around the birdbath in this heat. I don't know where the nests are though.

Poor wasps :(
:sun:Ardhanarishvara | You died, and death was complete freedom from suffering - bliss. But it very quickly got lonely and repetitive in bliss, so you decided to be born once more. You've been doing this forever.

Whilst I may not agree with what you say, I will defend to the death my right to disagree with you.

Some say "think outside the box". I say "what fucking box?!" xx:taosmilie:

Re: Kill Wasps with Dish Soap and Water
Just be careful of yellow jacket wasps, don't stand to far underneath a yellow jacket nest because if they get agitated their first response is to drop straight down from the nest before opening their wings to fly out.

It's just how they launch into flight to avoid hitting each other or damaging their nest...but if your too close under them they will wind up dropping directly on you.

yeah, thats kinda the main reason for this, - I was looking into something natural that wont hurt the planet. AND only kill the wasps that are in attack mode, since they do serve a purpose otherwise.

So I would say use a natural lemon scented soap, after dark, if you are going to attempt this

thanks to all replies!

You would actually wait for them to sting first? Wasps in South Florida sting for no reason and hurt like a bitch. Judging by the number of bugs around here I'd say their doing a crappy job of population control so I have no use for them. Nothing personal.

Ha. I didn't notice that. Yeah, you don't wait for the wasps to strike first. Gotta go all George Dubya on their asses and pre-empt.

Must be something about that dish detergent. You can collect pesky summer fruit flies (that actually eat off of your plate if not taken care of) with apple vinegar in a bowl with drops of dish detergent. It really works.

You can also mix dishsoap, water & a little soda/pop in a plastic container. Set the container near the area you'd like to rid of hornets & watch how many you catch & kill.
