I use to think the same but after I found some sacred info, and have owned a cat for 2 years, I think you have a screw loose!

I've noticed that dog people tend to be control freaks with an excessive need for adoration. However, you have to give them credit for being willing to take care of a high-maintenance animal.

Cat people, on the other hand, accept creatures the way they are, warts and all.

People who adopt cats and then declaw them are really dog people who are too lazy to cater to a dog's MANY needs.

Dogs are work animals.

Cats are pets.

The worst thing that ever happened to the dog is when people started treating them like pets.

Aren't Bichons fairly clingy?

I knew someone with one, she couldn't go anywhere without him.
And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

You have to earn a cat's love ...
Dogs just give it to you ....

So ... dog people are basically whore lovers ... can't earn love.

^This.

In my experience, dog owners tend to be very social people who like to have constant affection from their pet. Cat people tend to be shy loner types. Obviously, results may vary.

Cats are pretty independent.

Dogs are very needy.

What kind of "mental disorder" do people have who need a needy pet?

Not all dog owners.. the ones who use dogs for the purposes (the farmer with a dog who helps with the cattle or chases off yotes; the hunter whose dog assists with felling game, etc) but yeah most of the people who endlessly coddle and command their dogs in the streets and go 'Look, Fido can do 23 tricks now!' usually turn out to be clingy control freaks especially when it comes to relationships.

Of all my friends, the ones who own cats tend to be more relaxed and tolerant and respectful of others' personal spaces.

I've learned a lot about "live and let live" and "acceptance" and "letting go" from my cats. I think we all have a lot to learn from animals.

Well yes, Buster the Bichon is more needy than clingy. His little paws without an opposing thumb makes it hard for him to crab.

When I'm home he is right there, my constant potty pal, shower pal. The thinks he is tough...but he is not.

I'd have a cat as another member of the household...not for emotional attachments that I wouldn't otherwise have.

Thanks. I've been wanting one for years but I wasn't sure if I'd be able to be around enough to care for one properly.

Re: What kind of mental disorder do people have who choose to have a pet cat over a pet dog?
dogs are a huge pain in the ass, you have to adapt to THEM, instead of them adapting to your enviornment ...
cats adapt to your life style and are not disruptive or demanding, as long as they have access to food and water, and a litter box you are free to live YOUR life
cats don't eat shoes
cats don't gnaw on table legs
cats don't scratch the paint off your door ...
cats don't bark like they are on fire every-time the door bell rings
cats don't piss a puddle when you get home they rarely get excited or out of control
cats don't eat dung
cats don't need baths
cats don't take up the whole bed
cats don't like to go for a ride and they don't put snot on every window of the house
cats eat bugs and rodents and birds that shit on your stuff
cats don't need a fence, a leash or a collar or chew toys
cats don't need to be told twice to get down
cats bury their waste
cats make dogs, and their owners look stupid.
