Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19292240 Yep and if you run a high end machine and like to benchmark forget it. I will always keep it as a dual boot if I can. You really can't expect the driver support for open source software to ever be at the same level though. Agreed... but why can't Ubuntu make use of an older driver, or even a generic driver in order to install (instead of crashing)? Of course this is still speculation because it is still unknown why Ubuntu will not install on some systems; apparently editing the kernel line in grub has helped some but not all people. As for me, I do not even make it to the grub window when I try to boot after an install. The system locks up with a blank purple screen. Ububtu is not yet ready for prime time... maybe by 14.04 they will have figured out basic installation for their program. But by the time 14.04 comes out there will be new hardware they cannot support. This is why Windows is superior, UPNP in widows is amazing, it will work for hardware that has not been invented yet, very cool. Dont get me wrong Linux is cool, but only for certain things. I use it for my FileServer but since I am a program developer linux is usless for my Dev machine, mind you I get windows for free (MS partner) Mate. Sigh. You're a botnet arm waiting to happen. What???? are you telling me I can plug any hardware into a linux box and it will just work first time??? Or is it beacuse I have a job that develops software for the windows platform? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19232138 Why would I want an OS which would require me to be a fkn expert in computers? Linux sux. Anyone trying to connect an ordinary camera, scanner or, God forbid, something more complicated, is going to have a hard time setting it up. Just imagine setting up an ordinary PC TV card. You'll piss blood before you'll watch TV on that thing within Linux. Fuck that. ^ This is why there is no Slovenian space program ^ Hey man, not all Slovenians are stupid. Some of us run Linux and are happy with it. I personaly use Linux for browsing (not now, because i'm at work) and running some Win software with Wine because it's super fast. Also a friend of mine runs a Unix server because it's BulletProof :) Greets from SLO ::peace:P |

For gamers, though, it's still an issue. PC gaming might die off, or maybe developers will start porting games to Linux. Or maybe we'll all die in WWIII. Clearly you dont know shit. Alright first fun fact when installing ubuntu is that you dont have any actual drivers for the video card (aside from the most basic OpenGL). Next comes vsync issues in video playback and video web playback to which to this day there is no fix for. Windows is a good platform if you understand how to protect it such as using Avast anti virus, and malware bytes to keep yourself protected. Ubuntu also does not recognize all hardware off the bat (far from it such as TV capture cards) amd trying to install .run files can be a pain in the ass. Windows is simple, you download your driver you install it done. With linux its first install the OS, learn how to manipulate it(this takes time), Install .run file through the terminal for drivers and done. |
