I lived for a few years in Malaysia which is considered to be the most 'tolerant' of Muslim countries - and Muslim women were arrested on a regular basis if they were in a place alone with a man they were not related to. Nothing happened to the man mind you. And any time a woman was raped and had the courage to go and report it, the man NEVER went to prison - slap on the wrist. And this is in today's MOST tolerant Muslim country.

And off topic but during Ramadan if you were found eating in a restaurant during the day, when you are supposed to be fasting, and 'carded' and registered Muslim, you were arrested. God I was never so grateful to be a FREE American woman.

I'd say most of turkey (western), and eastern European Muslim countries, are more tolerant.

Palestinians are generally tolerant but they don't have a country.
Persians are tolerant but not their government.
