Only those who are off the ship will survive and continue on. The rest are already dead. Laugh all you want. Your great grandchildren will curse you for your ignorance. |

Quoting: Back to the Future! 1555791 Posted on January 30th, 2011 in Amish Communities Once, an Amish acquaintance with an interest in numbers showed me a few calculations. He had worked out the theoretical Amish population far into the future, using the assumption that it doubles every 20 years. The numbers get big quickly. Total Amish population (currently 250,000) hits a million sometime in the 2050s, and rockets from there. A recent academic study (on the spread of a “religion gene“) touches on the same topic. The study’s author uses a similar calculation to predict 7 million Amish by 2100. Amish population growth To put this in perspective, 7 million Amish would be: •nearly 30 times today’s Amish population •about equal to the current population of Washington state •larger than the present population of Denmark, Paraguay, and about 100 other countries [link to amishamerica.com] Sounds good to me, the Amish are hard working honest people:) |

The USA will be no more by then - all of the atomized 'Americans' tossed to the wind. Most will devour one another and perish as the stores run dry, the lights go out, and all are thrown back into the real world. |

Your great grandchildren will curse you for your ignorance. wellI agree with you, kind of... I like the Amish - good for them. I fear pretty soon we are going to have no choice but to "play" Amish - but not nearly as nicely. In tents and ragged out houses never meant to be lived in without power... As for our grandchildren - I don't know if we'll get along that far. Scary world. I'm banking on Jesus. Hmmmm... anyone here know of any significant Amish prophecy teachings that might have led them to this seperatism... I'm gonna research it... I have kids - youngish ones. I've tried to prepare them but they have no clue. When TSHTF, I'm gonna have a tough time helping them survive in a world nothing like they know it to be now... James 1:2-4 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. |

Quoting: samanthasunflower ![]() Hi Samantha! I agree with you; it would be refreshing to once again have a citizenry which was honest, hard-working, and able to live with Nature enough to actually prosper. Plus I'd bet that you won't find any Amish on the Welfare/food stamp rolls or standing in line for "Obama money". I wish there were more of them right NOW, or at least a little bit more spread out across America. We could ALL learn from them, and one day the things they know could actually save our lives. Wonder what they're doing for AC in this heat?! I personally know several families in which most of the children are seriously disabled. Six fingered children are also common in many Amish families. Also, like the Dupont family, many of the Amish have a serious case of the uglies (which is also caused by in- breeding) They will die out before they reach 7M. OT - The "hard working" Amish deny ther children an education after 8th grade and treat their young people as virtual slaves. The Mennonite (peace faith from which the Amish sprung) are hard working and not so dogmatic... But I'm not Mennonite either - so maybe they have dirty secrets of which I am unaware... |

I've tried to prepare them but they have no clue. When TSHTF, I'm gonna have a tough time helping them survive in a world nothing like they know it to be now... I don't know about any SPECIFIC prophecies, but perhaps they take literally the Biblical admonition to live IN the World but not to be a PART of it. It must be a constant temptation, especially among the young, to join the "rest of the World" as we now know it. Life could/would be SO much easier for them with electricity, cars, agricultural machinery, telephones, etc.! And I'll bet it drives them nuts to have all the tourists laughing and pointing and snapping pictures or videos of them when they're just trying to live their simple lives! Well, all it would take is one well-placed EMP and we'd all be BEGGING them for their wisdom! Has anyone ever thought that perhaps the Amish are a "Gift" from God, placed here and allowed to thrive in order to help us through some future disaster? Plus the idea to divide land to give to offspring will only go so far. Quoting: av 19381641 Most Amish young people check out the 'mainstream' world for a few years starting at age 16 - are encouraged to, actually - and once they see it for what it actually is - they return to their communities to live and marry. The very few who do not return aren't even worth talking about. They're now part of the dung heap. |

Quoting: Mdarbyreid 5137217 well this is sad. those poor children 'romantic' and idealistic as the amish way of life seems to some, clearly, eventually mother nature either kills off the branch for obvious reason, or hopefully these insular people 'branch out'. no pun intended the only thing that will take the masses back to the 1800s is necessity. the mother of invention, or when the lights go off not that the 1800s were all that. simpler may be, but thats about it |
