imo all you really need is

- flashlight + extra batteries
- fixed knife and a leatherman
- means to make a fire (firesteel and a bic lighter)
- means to purify and carry water (kelly kettle, sigg bottle)
- first aid kit (custom made incl. medicine)
- clothing (raincoat, boots, gloves, wool hat)

Pick up all else as you move along.

Mobility is the key.

And get rid of anything GPS, it will do more harm than anything in an escape situation.

Great thread, the board should have more like these.

i'd add some colloidal silver in liquid or gel format. they also have bandages treated with silver. a couple of coins would be useful for barter and to help clean water.

clove oil is very useful as a natural analgesic and antiseptic. numerous natural oils have anti-biotic/viral/fungal properties and may provide some protection in case of a bio event.

a long battery life e-reader and solar panel or AA->usb battery. there are backpacks with built in solar panels and usb ports. you can have an entire library, including survival guides, maps, and schematics. bonus points if you can make it into a faraday cage.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18852579

I am no expert on the subject but from what I have read that colloidal silver stuff is no good. micro particles of silver that get absorbed into your skin just strikes me as a bad idea. From what i understand doesn't the body have problems removing heavy metals? I will just stick to the tried and true medical stuff for now. but if it works for you excellent.

The solar panel and e-reader is a great idea to have at home. you never know when the internet will go down and having all that information is going to really pay off. its amazing how many books you can store in a little ass device.
thanks.

Re: My 15 pound EDC survival bag with pictures and description. What is in your Bag? (Guns added page 3)
great looking bag OP. Glad to see you put the med kit together yourself as most people have ones stuffed full of "boo boo" items and not "oh fuck" items. My only suggestion would be:

Antibiotics: It is very easy to order FDA approved pharmacy grade "Fish Antibiotics" online. They are the exact same dose, pill and quality as human antibiotics for 1/10th the price. If that sounds too good to be true thats because it is, the government will be closing this loophole very soon and amazon has already taken them off their site.

Dude a gun: Get yourself a cheap reliable used glock and just leave it in there. write down the serial number obviously in case it gets stolen. You have to be aware at this point how invaluable a firearm is so whats holding you back? Figure out a solution to your concerns/problems and carry a frikkin gun.
 Quoting: _____tard

thanks. I agree with you that the kits you get in stores are mostly just Boo Boo items. A well stocked oh fuck kit is easy to assemble and will be more useful then a bunch of Band-Aids. I do need to do some research on antibiotics and get ahold of some. what kinds of antibiotics do you need for everyday emergencies?

Yeah i guess you and everyone is right and I should start packing the pistol again. Its kinda silly to have all this gear and not have a gun with you. I am dating a girl with two kids 9 and 10. she isn't really fond of the guns so I have been keeping them locked up. I think i can convince her that its a great tool to have on you.

What do you have against GPS?
That little hiking unit i have stores topo maps of my entire area including trails and water. It weighs nothing runs forever on two AA's and fucking talks to satellites in outer fucking space and tells me exactly where I am at anywhere in the world. it has elevation, distance to target and directional information. and there not that expensive.

Besides the global internet i feel GPS technology is the best invention ever to come to the publics hands. Its amazing what that little unit can do and its defiantly one of the top 10 survival items in my book. i think everyone should have one.

what is the big conspiracy your talking about? i love a good conspiracy but I have never heard of the GPS one. If your talking about the GPS in your cell phone tracking you they can do that without the GPS just by triangulating your position from the towers. GPS or not your cell phone makes a great tracking device and its registered in your name. So if your ever on the run from the FBI I would dump the cell phone, I don't think there tracking me though i am a good boy. The handheld and car GPS units don't transmit any data out they just listen for the satellite message. They cant track you from them and there not regestered to one person so there safe.

thanks for the report card, funny shit.

Great BOB. you got everything in there you need. maybe add a sleeping pad to go under your bag. you probably know that most of your heat loss in a sleeping bag is threw the ground. The insulation compresses and the ground wicks the heat away. Also add in a large water storage container and your good. I like that Parang you have in the pic, I really need to get one of those for the Bug out gear.

For all you gun fans i will show off my .22 setup. I don't carry this everyday but it would be the first gun bag I grab in an emergency. I am a big fan of the .22 because of the ammo is cheep and small letting you carry a shit load more then other size guns and its also the most common size ammo in america.

I love my Ruger 10/22 takedown and little 9 shot revolver. I made the ammo tube out of PVC because it is crush proof and water proof holding about 1000 rounds fully loaded. It also slides nicely into the extra empty pouch provided in the Ruger bag. I also have in there a gun cleaning kit and the tools needed to break the 10/22 down.

I like this idea only because most ppl have never truly been through a emergency let alone practice it on a daily basis. I did, working on an ambulance service 10 yrs, and have seen ppl completely lose it seeing just a little blood or run around like mad men at an accident scene not knowing what to do.

Your BoB is a great idea but have you ever truly tested it like in a timed scenario?

I have been a survivalist my entire life. I grew up in the woods where tinkering, building, and fixing things were what I did for fun. I spent 10 years in the military as a jet mechanic and aircraft recovery first responder where my job was to keep a level head and organize others for any aircraft emergencies. I can fix anything and now work in the construction field.

I have extensive hiking experience. Leaving the military in 2005 I was fortunate enough to have the time to thru-hike the appalachian trail hiking from GA to ME for 2200 miles in one shot.

I would say i am going to be better off then most in a real disaster scenario.
