My 15 pound EDC survival bag with pictures and description. What is in your Bag? (Guns added page 3)
I believe everyone should have an EDC/GHB (every day carry/get home bag) bag on or near there person at all times. I have been carrying around some form of backpack with basic gear for about 20 years or so and it has proven a great asset numerous times. The communication, transportation, Medical, police, and power infrastructure we rely on everyday will be the first things that go down in any sort of large emergency scenario. If an emergency happens regardless of how big or small having a few tools and supplies will come in very handy and might just save your life or the lives of others.

In this post I will describe the inventory of my EDC backpack and try to give some description as to why I choose to carry each item. The complete backpack weighs in at around 15 pounds and i have tried to keep it as light and small as possible. I have also picked a normal looking school bag instead of the popular “tactic-cool” Molle covered bags that are just going to draw unwanted attention. If I leave it in the car when I run into a store i want it to blend in an look like every other school bag out there. Stealth is key.

I am not endorsing any brands or saying you need any or all these items. Most of these items can be found cheaply or replaced with anything similar or not carried at all depending on personal preference. This is just a list of stuff that I think could be useful in any type of emergency use. I will try to keep it simple and short

. If you have any questions or suggestions feel free to ask. And I would like to know what is in your bag and why do you carry it?

edc contents

This is what’s in the pack. starting from left to right I have a small orange waterproof bag, some Ziplocks and a large white waterproof sack that all the remaining items fit into. Most backpacks out there are not at all waterproof and keeping all your survival items clean and dry is a must. your extra clothing and gps serve no purpose to you soaked in water after you trip and fall in a puddle or 10 min after your stuck outside in a rain storm. everything that is not waterproof goes into a waterproof bag.

the blue first aid kit and black organizer bag I will open up and describe the contents later in the post.

I have a pair of hiking pants that unzip to make shorts, a long sleeve non cotton shirt, and some smartwool socks. I stay away from cotton because is gives you no warmth when wet and takes forever to dry. If I combine the long sleeve with the rain coat its plenty to keep me warm and dry at night during the summer even if the temperatures drop. I also carry around an extra small coat in the winter and a small sleeping bag.

in the green bag is a simple REI raincoat that comes in handy all the time. below that is a titanium cup for collecting water and doing cup things. the white package is a 3 day food ration pack, I like this because it will last for years and its not effected by heat is small and compact. Its just enough food to keep someone going for a few days till you can get home to your supplies. Below that is a bag with chargers and cords for my phone and ham radio. there is a small black umbrella on the bottom and two platypus bags for water storage. the large bag holds 8 liters and the small one liter.

In the next post I will go into the black organizer sack.

gear kit

In this organizer I keep most of my tools and gear. Its just a simple zipper pouch that has elastic holders and a few compartments to organize your items. I will start on the top and go left to right and top down.

I recently picked up this ham radio and have been extremely pleased with what it can do. If the power goes out and your cell phone dies your going to need something like this to know what is going on and make educated choices on how to proceed. I have stored into memory all the police and fire frequencies in my area and it also can scan the frequencies for any radio chatter.

the compass and map are very important if the electronic devices get broken or were hit with a CME or something. redundancy is the key here. next is a simple waterproof notebook and a few pens and pencils for taking and leaving notes. below that is an Aquamira water purification kit. I like this product because it leaves no aftertaste like the iodine based products have. there is a small lighter and memory stick loaded with survival PDF’s as well. Next is a SOG type multi tool and extra spare knife. If you don’t have a good multi tool and knife they should be the first things you acquire. I also have a flint fire-starter and a small NOAA radio that i will probably remove once i figure out the ham radio better.

In the next row is a simple knife sharpener and stone followed by a 10x powered monocular for seeing things going on in the distance. the wires and silver case go to a small camping inverter that has proven itself valuable many of times. its great to have a 110 outlet and USB power port anywhere there is a car. I also carry a set of extra wire with clips so i can hook it directly up to a 12 volt battery if needed outside of a car.

the black Maglite flashlight and petzl headlamp are both very good reliable sources of light and all three flashlights i carry use AAA batteries. Again redundancy is key here because you cant see in the dark you need a good light. a handheld Gps loaded with house, family, and safe locations throughout my area is a vital way to navigate if your normal paths are blocked. and the red saw can be used for cutting firewood to clearing fallen debris.

the keychain with the light and the knife are always in my pocket at all times. I feel a good knife and a good flashlight are the most important survival items and they are never out of hands reach.

if your still hanging in there next is the first aid kit.

first aid kit

I don’t feel the need to describe every item in this first aid kit. I am sure every one of you has one laying around so i will just hit on the unique items not found in your everyday store bought kits. In the blue bag i carry an assortment of bandages and trauma pads along with some normal pills and ointments. I also have an Epipen (epinephrine injector) that can be used for life-threatening allergic reactions caused by insect bites, foods, medications, latex, and other causes. the Readi masks are a great product that comes flat but unfolds to a full face mask and a particulate air-purifying mask that filters more than 95% of particles from entering the lungs.

QuikClot is great for quickly stopping bleeding from superficial wounds, minor cuts and abrasions. I also have suture kits and medical stitch tape for closing open wounds. I also carry toilet paper, bug spray, Afterbite, baby powder, latex gloves, extra rope, candles, welding glass (for sun observation),condoms, sewing kit, emergency blanket and a first aid book. I also have in there some vitamin C packets and multi vitamins. The rest is just your normal everyday items.

Well thanks for reading threw and I hope you saw at least one item you haven't thought of or something useful to add to your pack. For the people out there that don’t have something like this I would strongly suggest you start to put some things together. You never know when the next emergency will enter your life, like a good Boy scout always be prepared.

I am not that Demilitarized to give up my guns, I still believe some people cant be helped and just need a good killing. I just don't feel the need to keep myself armed at all times yet.

thanks, I took that picture a few years ago hiking. it is just a normal frog picture that i zoomed way into the eye but I love the way I am reflected in it.

The antibiotics are on order from a DR. friend of mine that has been taking his sweet time. I guess i could go the pet supply route but i was promised a good assortment of medical grade antibiotics so i have been holding off.

I usually dump in my backpack what I need for the day, which often includes bike repair tools, air pump, innertube, and extra chain links.

(some notes)
I have a cheap canteen that I modified because all it did was dig into my neck, but it frees up space in my backpack and still gives me access to my water without stopping.

I also made a small satchel to sling over my shoulder to keep all the things I want instant access to, within arms reach to avoid stopping to go into my pack too often, and keep weapons, map, ect. at the ready, and I put whatever map im on in a ziplock baggie to keep it dry yet readable.
and it helps avoid loading down my pants pockets.

I always carry a hankerchief, an I use anti-fog on my glasses.

close to home I just use bug repellant, but I have a bugnet and also a full torso bug net, but I would only use them if necessary because i don't want them to get torn on branches unnecessarily.
I stored a lighter for a number of years and the flint turned to mush

I have a small solar panel that runs usb charger to battery
and adapters for all but one item which is stupidly a 9v battery

I might not be seeing it but i keep a tube of anti-biotic ointment

I used a product called body glide for chaffing and canesten athletes foot cream on my buttox to prevent nasty jock rash, especially if wet.
I carry a 5-hour energy shot and electrolyte caplets
I usually just bring some trail mix when hiking for the day because it wont spoil and cant get crushed in backpack

I have an electronic 'dog dazer II' because i keep getting chased/attacked by dogs, its the stupid device that needs 9v battery (haven't found remote charger usb or adapter to charge them yet.)

I have an emergency whistle and a small air horn to blow to alert wildlife when I enter a wooded area.

I don't usually carry all this crap with me though but it's im my bug-out plan.

theres other stuff but I'm rambling.

I have a wind up radio, potassium iodine tablets, a brita water filter, a multi tool and some spirulina tablets and dried beans in my backpack.

its more of an earthquake pack.

radio for information, iodine for nuclear meltdowns, brita for filtering water obviously, multi tool for doing whatever, spirulina and beans are my emergency superfoods.

its just meant to keep me going for a few days max, beyond that if things are really that bad i doubt any backpack will save you.

Thanks for the post and that is a great list of stuff. I really like the body glide idea. I used to carry this stuff called monkey butt or something that was great for hiking and it worked wonders. I will have to add some more raw ass can nasty painful.

I have a truck load or more of food and gear I would have to have if i actually had to bug out in a nasty situation but i can't carry all that shit around everyday. This bag is more of way to help me get home from work if something were to happen then. I work construction and can be quite a few miles away from home on any given day. This pack has to be light so i could potentially walk home from where I am at.
thanks again for the post.
