Approximate cost behind your bag, and all contents? Also, have you ever considered assembling those for others that may not have the time to do so themselves?

I know some folks that would likely pay for that convenience.

i had to look up the spirulina tablets and i like them. my girlfriend is allergic to peanuts and i think this will be a great emergency food for her.

A backpack is all you need to survive a few days. Hopfully everything will calm down enough or for you to get back to your house where all the large supply survival grear is. You would be surprised how little it takes to survive for just a few days, but every little thing extra really helps.

Stay safe out there in japan man. Watch that geiger counter like a hawk.

Thanks, I have spent some time collecting all the items. Just by looking threw it quickly i would say there is probably about a thousand dollars of stuff in there if you were to try to duplicate it. the radios, gps and fancy tools add up quick.

If your really interested in me putting together a bag for you or someone drop me a PM. I am sure that i could put something together that would fit any budget.

The fundamental problem with any thread about survival bags is that we always get some testosterone-riddled bonehead in combat fatigues who spouts off about how he was in 'Nam and lived in Central Park in Upstate Manhattan, surviving off a jar of pickles and pencil sharpener. Then this aggressive dork INSISTS that we all ahave to listen ONLY to him and types ignorant abuse against anyone who questions his "wisdom" about how to catch field mice with nothing more than a bazooka and a used condom.

The sad fact is this... the bag scheduled is great for workaday life, but, in the event of a true crisis, lacks the single most important survival tool, without which, everything else is utterly useless.

If the SHTF, the single biggest issue is RADIOACTIVITY.

Radioactivity means that ordinary food and water becomes potentially lethal to consume. Same even with hunting animals.

ANd you can't see it. Hence, a GEIGERCOUNTER becomes as important if not more so than your own eyes.

To the guy with the 9v attachment to his solar panel: The attachment and steel wool makes a nice firestarter. That's what 9v's are good for.

Only thing I'd add is solar panel and some rechargeable batteries. (And a pistol, atleast a .22LR or .22MAG small revolver, but you've covered that already ^_-)

I have a geiger counter at home but I don't feel the need to carry it everywhere I go. I do have a RadTriage Radiation card I keep in my wallet but I think the risk is low for a radiation disaster happening in the new england area where we wouldn't know about it threw other means. If your in a high risk area then i can see where that would be essential. Everyone is going to have a different set of needs depending on there location and situation. the bag is always changing and adapting.

I am not above putting together a set a gear that could save some ones life someday. There are allot of people out there that are just waking up and have not had the time or knowledge to put together there own survival gear. If I can make a few bucks on it then it would be worth my time. hell companies have been built on less and the construction business is still slow.

Thought of asking you to itemize the list, but decided to do it myself since you were so gracious to share....

Bag – large school book bag

General Contents
1) Small orange waterproof bag
2) Ziplocks (different sizes)
3) Large waterproof/sealable sack (for protection of electronics and other items like clothing against water damage) – Submersible bag would be best (hiking store)…
4) Pair of hiking pants (unzip to make shorts)
5) Long sleeve non-cotton shirt
6) Smartwool socks (not cotton – they don’t dry easily, which will translate into frostbite in the winter)
7) Lightweight raincoat or pancho
8) Small extra coat for winter
9) Small sleeping bag
10) REI raincoat
11) Titanium cup + small camping kit (pan/plate/knife/fork)
12) 3-day food ration pack (Army surplus)
13) Separate waterproof bag for electronics, containing:
a. Handheld GPS Unit (programmed for house, family, other safe locations)

thanks for typing that all up i am going to print it out to give to family and friends who are looking for some guidance in what to acquire.

I would say that is an awesome itemized list of gear for someone putting together a bag or someone trying to collect a few items to add to there gear. most people should have a good deal of those items laying around the house. You can never have enough supplies and everything on that list has many uses and will pay for itself ten fold if TSHTF.

some things your are missing. Depending on where you live ofcoarse.... 0degree sleeping bag... and a four seasons backpacking tent... make shift shelter is a must.

I feel that in the northeast the first few days of any event water will still be easy to acquire, i bet there is gallons of it in water bottles on the side of every highway in america nevermind the fack that running steams are plentiful. I also carry aquamira purification chemical to treat any water I do get from a non reliable source. The water filter and stored water catch is at the house and fully stocked, this bag is just to ensure I can make it home.

Cold War Giegercounters are big and clumsy and depend upon the mains voltage being there to recharge....which, of course, it wouldn't.

Mine is a handheld medical one, using rechaeable AA batteries from Medcom.com. The beauty of this is that one can simply have a solar panel or a car engine connected to a booster to recharge them.

magnifying glass...big un, extra compass, heavy duty courier carry bag (for the pladapus water containers, water is heavy)coach tape, lots more gauze, blister pad, toothbrush and toothpaste,sewing kit and needles, ss canteen cup (cooking, collecting, etc)
flat crowbar (trust me, you'll want to get into places), more rope, string, paracord, and duct tape.....damn good start

That's a great BOB and thanks for sharing. Mine is similar and I notice something missing from yours that might be helpful - skin glue. You won't be able to stitch every cut by yourself.

i'd add some colloidal silver in liquid or gel format. they also have bandages treated with silver. a couple of coins would be useful for barter and to help clean water.

clove oil is very useful as a natural analgesic and antiseptic. numerous natural oils have anti-biotic/viral/fungal properties and may provide some protection in case of a bio event.

a long battery life e-reader and solar panel or AA->usb battery. there are backpacks with built in solar panels and usb ports. you can have an entire library, including survival guides, maps, and schematics. bonus points if you can make it into a faraday cage.

great looking bag OP. Glad to see you put the med kit together yourself as most people have ones stuffed full of "boo boo" items and not "oh fuck" items. My only suggestion would be:

Antibiotics: It is very easy to order FDA approved pharmacy grade "Fish Antibiotics" online. They are the exact same dose, pill and quality as human antibiotics for 1/10th the price. If that sounds too good to be true thats because it is, the government will be closing this loophole very soon and amazon has already taken them off their site.

Dude a gun: Get yourself a cheap reliable used glock and just leave it in there. write down the serial number obviously in case it gets stolen. You have to be aware at this point how invaluable a firearm is so whats holding you back? Figure out a solution to your concerns/problems and carry a frikkin gun.

Fifteen pounds is nice and light, I need to get my evac kit down to that.

I don't know if the emergency services use such things in the states but they do in Britain and some other places around the world.

Over here they are called FB keys (Fire Brigade keys.)
And there are many such as FB1, FB2, 14. g, 2700.

They open the locks that are used on things like cleaners rooms and cupboards and park gates and lots of other things too.

Anyone in Britain reading this may well have seen those big yellow padlocks here and there at some point, I don't know what make those locks are but you will find a number 14 stamped on them, that's what the 14 key is for.

I have some of these keys that I acquired a long time ago through work that I keep in my safe pack.

Bolt cutters are part of my Driving Bug Out scenario.
Telescoping ramps as well.
I can get the car up and over 3 foot concrete barriers.
