Break Your Cell Phone! | |
Flat (OP) User ID: 19305953 United States 07/10/2012 07:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have never owned a cell phone in my life and never will. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1561325 When I tell young children (not my own) this, they stare at me wide-eyed like there's something wrong with me. Society in America is fucked. The vast majority of the next few generations of children are going to be completely unable to think for themselves, utterly devoid of empathy, and literally tethered to technology in order to feel as though they have a purpose in their lives. Completely, utterly fucked... I've actually gone on a couple dates with girls who gawk when I say I don't have one. They really thought I was insane. Today it seems to be almost "creepy" if you don't have one. That is, something must obviously be wrong with you if you want to be where you are physically and not constantly "connected". |

Flat (OP) User ID: 19305953 United States 07/10/2012 11:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A well written article about the history and evolution of cell phones with some nice graphics. [link to electronics.howstuffworks.com] This one was real simple and short. From the site: "The cellular phones work as the transmitters which these cell sites pick up. If we want to make a call we dial the persons number and press send, which is actually what really happens. The cell phone sends the number to the cell site to its base station for it to connect to the intended party." [link to www.easy-cellphone.com] Commercial history from Wikipedia: [link to en.wikipedia.org] I think it's important to realize there are a whole bunch of cell phone towers. Wonderful Propaganda! [link to www.youtube.com] The video says telecommunication industry is the second richest industry in the world. Second to oil companies. I can't find much to back that up, but I didn't look too hard. Either way, there's some great points. Specifically, cell towers are popping up everywhere. Here's a website making money out of it: [link to www.steelintheair.com] From some random news site. Well written "news" blurb: [link to www.chron.com] |
Flat (OP) User ID: 19305953 United States 07/11/2012 12:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Center for Safer Wireless claims "Peer-reviewed scientific studies have identified adverse effects on populations living near cell phone towers. General symptoms include headaches, fatigue, concentration problems, dizziness, insomnia, depression, appetite loss, skin rashes, and discomfort." [link to www.centerforsaferwireless.org] They back up the claim with this convincing information: [link to www.centerforsaferwireless.org] and actually posts the study here: [link to www.centerforsaferwireless.org] The same site also has a human interest story link: [link to www.youtube.com] (read the comments!) "Current FCC regulations controlling human exposure to radio frequency radiation, emitted by every communication antenna, are based on research conducted before 1986." [link to whyfry.org] From The FCC's own web site: "In 1996, the FCC adopted updated guidelines for evaluating human exposure to RF fields from fixed transmitting antennas such as those used for cellular and PCS cell sites. The FCC’s guidelines are identical to those recommended by the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP), a non-profit corporation chartered by Congress to develop information and recommendations concerning radiation protection. The FCC’s guidelines also resemble the 1992 guidelines recommended by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a non-profit technical and professional engineering society, and endorsed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), a nonprofit, privately-funded membership organization that coordinates development of voluntary national standards in the United States." emphasis added. Flat (OP) User ID: 19305953 United States 07/11/2012 11:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From the FCC: "On May 31, 2011, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified radiofrequency fields as “possibly carcinogenic to humans.” The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports that this classification means that “there is limited evidence showing carcinogenicity in humans and less than sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals.” The National Cancer Institute suggests that the IARC classification fits with the handful of positive reports but overall inconsistent data concerning human carcinogenicity." Please remember the jury is still out on this issue, and that it took more than 40 years to prove cigarettes caused cancer. "Since there is a time lag of approximately 20 to 30 years between the onset of smoking and the development of lung cancer, the damage done was not immediately apparent. Doctors were surprised to see a sudden epidemic of lung cancer cases in the 1930s." [link to smokinglungs.com] Anti-Smoking campaigns rally on the health issues. If cell phones do in fact cause an increase of cancer, will we see a similar movement take root? Has anyone here quit smoking and own a cell phone? Which do you feel is harder to give up? |

Is the convenience and your creature comforts so dear? Can any of you cell phone users give it up? Have any of you already used a phone for years and given it up? Yep it's been in my purse dead for over a year. If it isn't working, seems people call the other phone more. No contract, it was a pay as you anyway. Saved $740 a year with the pay as you go. Gave it up and save another $100. Goodbye and good riddens. Verizon and AT&T owners can go sweat for their money like the rest of us. I don't need to live up to the connected phones of so called normal society. Ring the doorbell if you want to talk to me. Getting connected leaves society disconnected. Brilliant reply , I too would have a dead phone but I have a son at primary school and carry one just in case he is unwell and the school need to contact me.....I rarely have credit , I dont text...anyone who needs me either rings me on the house phone or come to the house..... |

Is the convenience and your creature comforts so dear? Can any of you cell phone users give it up? Have any of you already used a phone for years and given it up? I don't have a cell phone anymore. I don't watch TV anymore either. We live in a scientific and technological inspired "panopticon". Information surveillance technologies are being used to eliminate all rights to privacy, both physically and mentally. This is being done to cause an automatic functioning of power, i.e., control over every facet of human existence. The surveillance "systems" are designed to permanently, and silently, effect the individuals under its control. The actual or literal use of power to get people to do something, like not run a red light for instance, is not neccessary. The "machines" manipulate and control the people, independent of the " grand architect" who inspired its creation. The users of the "systems" are the prisoners, the "imates" of the "systems" they are creating! |
