Appears so but I have no access to a clam to prove it. I believe that it is actually their foot they use to move and dig with and not their tongue. How do clams taste and eat I now wonder.

Never tried them on a BBQ. We always put them on a piece of tin roof over a fire and threw a wet burlap bag over them until they opened then eat them on saltines with Tabasco sauce.
